I don't think I've seen a suspension for a failed drug test since Dinger a few years ago, hope this kid is as lucky as Dinger to get a second chance.

Gallagher issued Substance Abuse Policy penalty

Driver Spencer Gallagher has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy, NASCAR announced Wednesday.

On May 1, Gallagher was found to have violated Section 19 (NASCAR’s substance abuse policy) of the 2018 NASCAR rule book, according to a NASCAR press release.

Gallagher has agreed to participate in the Road to Recovery Program, a requirement before he is eligible to be cleared to race again.

Gallagher issued the following statement after news of his suspension was announced: “I recently have had a positive result in a NASCAR drug screen, which has violated NASCAR’s substance abuse policy. I want to assure everyone in the NASCAR community this one-time error in judgment will never happen again. I am taking the steps to enroll in the Road to Recovery program supported by NASCAR. I would like to say that I am sorry to all of the GMS organization for my actions, especially my team and team owner, who have worked so hard this year and have put faith in me. I also want to apologize to NASCAR, Chevrolet and my fans for letting them down. I have not upheld the behavior that is expected of me. I promise you all here and now, I will do whatever it takes to make this right.”

Gallagher won his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series race last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, making a pass on the final lap. He drives the No. 23 GMS Racing Chevrolet. Should Gallagher be reinstated this season, he would not receive a playoff waiver.

Additionally, Gallagher and GMS Racing are not eligible to compete in the four-driver Dash 4 Cash field this week at Dover. RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg will replace Gallagher after finishing sixth at Talladega.

Gallagher has made 49 starts in the Xfinity Series and an additional 59 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He has five top-five finishes and 22 top-10 finishes combined across both series.

GMS Racing President Mike Beam issued this as part of a team statement: “GMS fully supports NASCAR’s policy on substance abuse and we do not condone this type of behavior. First and foremost, our entire organization wants to apologize to NASCAR, our sponsors, teammates and fans due to this policy violation. … A substitute driver will be announced at a later date.”

Nascar hasn't released the actual results, just that he failed. I guess he won't struggle to get a ride after he finishes treatment like Dinger did...........

Gallagher’s race team is owned by his father, Allegiant Air CEO Maurice Gallagher, and runs cars sponsored by Allegiant.

Nice baseball article (although a couple weeks old) about Pujols. He's done it the right way on and off the field.

Kenseth ‘anxious’ to get back behind wheel at Kansas

By Staff Report NASCAR.com  May 10, 2018  at 10:42 am
Matt Kenseth’s return to Roush Fenway Racing was announced last month and as his first start of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series gets closer, the 2003 champion is itching to get going.

“I’m anxious to get in the car for sure tomorrow and see where everything’s at and get acclimated to the team and the car and all the differences compared to what I’ve been used to the last five years,” Kenseth told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive.” “I’m looking forward to all that. I just don’t have any idea what to expect until you get there and not only get through this weekend, but also get a couple weeks down the road.”

Kenseth’s first start of the season comes on Saturday night in the KC Masterpiece 400 (8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) at Kansas Speedway. The 39-time winner in the sport’s top series did confirm in the interview what NBC Sports’ Nate Ryan had reported earlier this week that he will be in the car for the next five weekends for Kansas, the Monster Energy All-Star Race, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Pocono and Michigan.

The 46-year-old Wisconsin native will split seat time with Trevor Bayne at Roush. Bayne has driven the No. 6 Ford on a full-time basis since the start of the 2015 season. Kenseth said that the relationship between him and the No. 6 team is developing.

“We’ve spent some time together. We’ve talked on the phone. We’ve spent some time together Tuesday at the shop,” Kenseth said of his interaction with Bayne. “I think we have to see how it goes really. Obviously, this weekend I’m driving the car and Trevor will be back in it in six weeks or something. It’s definitely a unique situation. It’s definitely a little bit different but I think it’s hard to say exactly how it’s going to go and where are roles are going to lie when we are not in the car until we really get going and see how it goes.”

Kenseth has not been in a Ford since leaving Roush for Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of the 2012 season. The Blue Oval’s surge has been one of the dominant story lines of the 2018 season with Ford winning six of the season’s first 11 races. That success has Kenseth feeling good that things are heading in the right direction.

“Roush Fenway Racing has been on the upswing here the last couple years,” Kenseth said. “The cars have shown some speed. The 17 (of Ricky Stenhouse Jr.) particularly has shown good speed more times than not. They don’t necessarily have all the finishes but they’ve certainly been showing pretty good speed at a lot of places.

“I’m optimistic for sure. The Fords are all running well so you know all that is there. Doug Yates has always done a spectacular job building engines and doing all that. You know all the pieces are there. I feel like they are heading in the right direction in a lot of different ways and I’m looking forward to hopefully being a part of that.”

And red flag. Don't run 12 laps under caution. Then two lap shoot out . The race should just restart, no caution laps.

I sure wish the powers that be would consider adopting the rules that they have in All-Star race with regards to "finishing" races under a caution. First, you can't, race must finish under green, but better in my mind, is laps don't count under caution.
