Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
254 AM EDT Wed Mar 22 2017

.SHORT TERM...
Areas of fog will likely develop over the next few hours. The fog
should diminish a few hours after sunrise and then mostly clear
skies can be expected the remainder of the day as high pressure will
remain in control across the area. Winds will be light and variable
early before becoming more westerly during the late morning and
early afternoon. Onshore flow off the relatively cooler Gulf waters
will keep temps along and near the coast a bit cooler than the
interior sections. Temps away from the coast will get well into the
80s. No rainfall is expected across the area today.

As we get into Thursday, a weak frontal boundary will move into the
area. Looks like there should be just enough moisture and synoptic
support to support a 20-40 percent showers chance across
the area with the highest PoPs across the interior. Overall
QPF will be low however.

I generally work 6:30 AM - 4 PM but a teammate in Seattle is going on vacation for two weeks. She has a project going at the DFW Airport in Dallas which requires after hours work beginning at 11 PM EDT each night and runs several hours. So, I may be working 11 PM - 4 PM. We'll see if some sort of arrangement can be made to lessen the blow. If not then shoot me, lol

Sunny and 84 here at the moment. Back door cool front slides through dropping temps to the upper 60's tomorrow. Might be the last time I see 60's for daytime highs until November.

NWs Melbourne......stay safe folks...........Thu Mar 23 2017

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

.THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Cold temperatures aloft, a mid level disturbance and convergence
along and behind a back door front moving through the area today
will allow scattered convection to develop near the coast this
morning and transitioning toward the the Treasure coast and
southern interior into late afternoon. A few stronger storms will
be possible today with locally heavy rain, frequent lightning,
gusty winds and small hail.

.HIGH WIND IMPACT...
Northeast to east winds will increase to near 20 mph this
afternoon with gusts to 25 to 30 mph across much of east central
Florida. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for much of the area
today. Breezy to windy conditions will linger along the coast into
this evening.

.COASTAL FLOOD IMPACT...
A High Surf Advisory is in effect for building surf to 5 to 7 feet
in the surf zone this afternoon and continuing tonight. The large
pounding surf can knock you down and also make you susceptible to
rip currents.

.RIP CURRENT IMPACT...
A high risk of rip currents is expected today with a residual east
swell this morning and building surf this afternoon. Only swim
within sight of a lifeguard. Ask the beach patrol about ocean
hazards when you arrive at the beach.

.MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT...
Isolated lightning storms will produce strong gusty winds over the
Atlantic this morning and the mainland this afternoon.

.WIND AND SEA IMPACT...
Strong and gusty northeast to east winds will increase to 20 to 25
knots today and continue tonight. Hazardous boating conditions are
expected across the east central Florida Atlantic waters.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.
Marine and surf conditions will remain poor to hazardous for
boaters and beachgoers into the start of the weekend. The risk of
rip currents will remain elevated through the upcoming weekend and
into next week.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotters are requested to monitor the weather and self activate
if needed.

NWS Melbourne from earlier this morning..........THU MAR 23 2017

.NOW...

...Scattered Showers and Storms Moving South...

Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing over the Atlantic
will continue to move slowly to the south and at times approach the
east central Florida coastline. A few thunderstorms could become
strong and produce heavy downpours...frequent cloud-to-ground
lightning strikes...and gusty winds up to 50 mph as they push
onshore. The threat for thunderstorms is expected to shift south
toward Treasure Coasts later this morning.

I bet these strong storms are surprising a lot of folks over there this morning, I wonder why..the storms aren't coming down the state in a line like they usually do with a front coming downstate?
