Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
955 AM EDT Wed Apr 5 2017

.UPDATE...
Still some lingering low clouds in spots but expect those to
mix out soon resulting in mostly sunny skies. The main issue
for today will be wind. Low-level winds are southerly at 20
to 25 knots, so expect to see winds near 20 mph with higher
gusts, especially near the coast. The gridded forecast has
been updated.

Cold front still expected to bring a threat of strong to
severe storms tonight. Current timing looks like midnight to
2 AM for Levy county, reaching the Tampa Bay area between 4
and 7 AM, then Fort Myers area around or shortly after
sunrise. SPC has expanded the slight risk area southward a
bit, now encompassing Levy and Citrus counties. The marginal
risk extends south of there through the northwest half of
Polk and Manatee counties. Large hail is the primary threat
due to steep mid-level lapse rates, but an isolated damaging
wind gust and/or tornado is also possible, especially over
the Nature Coast.

Damn, another PDS issued.  That's the second in the past week that I know of.

I woke up to the local CBS channel doing a cut in last night about rotation coming inland from the GOM in Homosassa. Think it was around 10pm, but I don't see anything on the storm report.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
245 PM EDT Wed Apr 5 2017

.SHORT TERM (Tonight - Thursday)...
Gusty southerly flow will continue through the rest of the
afternoon, especially along the coast. Dry air is preventing much in
the way of cumulus development, but there could be a few showers or
storms over far eastern Polk/Highlands counties later this
afternoon. These will not be severe.

The main action will occur overnight tonight. A vigorous
upper-level trough and associated cold front will be moving
into the northeast Gulf this evening. Showers and
thunderstorms will increase in both coverage and intensity
over the Gulf before midnight, and continue to organize as
they move into the Nature Coast between midnight and 3 AM.
This line will progress fairly rapidly southeast through the
Tampa Bay area after 2 AM, then should begin to weaken and
move south of the Tampa Bay area early in the morning.
Specific timing is still uncertain, but the bulk of the
severe threat should be between midnight and 7 AM from north
to south. A robust low-level jet and 50+ knots of bulk
shear will favor discrete supercells developing ahead of or
along any linear squall line. Strong rotational updrafts
will be enhanced by cooling mid-levels which will support a
large hail risk in the strongest cells. Isolated tornadoes
are quite possible as well.

The severe threat will end rapidly from north to south late
tonight and early Thursday as the cold front pushes through
the region. Winds will shift northwesterly and become quite
gusty. Much cooler and drier air will move in by evening.

the leading edge of the storm line now entering new port richey and with this warning also...................Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
