Good Morning all from a very happy camper!
It wasn't a ton, but my total was .27" in my trusty cheapo gauge. I'm as excited to see the weekend temps around here. Enjoy it, as it will probably be the last!

Well at least the dust got rinsed off of everything. Or maybe it was blown off from all the wind I don't know . 0.25" in my gage. Not what was forecast, but actually more than I expected as I watched the pre-front squall line fall apart as it came ashore yesterday evening. Got .15 from it and .10 from the actual front line overnight. The wind overnight was cranking. Still up this AM, but not like last night.

Morning. I'm a bit disappointed but not surprised. Had a brief heavy shower with some wind which woke me up sometime during the overnight. Rain gauge tally is .17". First measurable rain since April 4th. A few cool nights forecast in the 50's with highs the next 2 days in the upper 70's. NWS has the 90's returning mid week with no rain in sight.

Update on the West Mims fire along the FL/GA border. It's burned 111,650 acres, only 12% contained, and is the largest non-100% contained fire in the country. Smoke may approach my area over the weekend with the wind shift but may stay more up towards Jacksonville.
111,650 acres is roughly 175 square miles.

Maybe that initial estimate of how long it would burn is not so far off!

I still find that difficult to believe. 6 more months? Unless they want to keep it going in spots to thin out some vegetation. I'm no fire expert so who knows.

We certainly didn't get any heavy stuff, missed us, but I'm guessing we've picked up about 1/4 of an inch or so? Been very cloudy and COOL and I'll take that any day of the week.

Morning Largo, that wind was a beast last night. It was gusting to 35mph at 11:30. I finally fell asleep and checked the PWS this morning to see how much higher it got. It's coming out of the W/NW. I didn't get any rain out of that little line that formed in the GOM

Morning. A cool, crisp 53 degrees upon waking up. Still a little breezy but not too bad.
Largo - I sorta visualize your yard to look like this with the tree canopies.
I have 5 fairly large Washingtonian palms, 2 large queen palms, a baby queen palm I grew from seed, 3 sago palms, and a pygmy date palm. Also have a couple of maples and a live oak but they are relatively small yet. Just planted the maples 5 years or so ago - one is probably 10' tall and the other 15' tall. They grow fairly quick but the live oaks grow SOOOO slow. Bought mine as a "Charlie brown tree" 12 years or so ago and it's just now beginning to resemble a tree. It'll be another 10 years before it's anything of size.

Good Morning Sang...yes it was terrible for quite a long time last night and even real early this morning, calmed down some as dawn approached..just took a walk to the park here and a tree came down and in other area's big branches down..would have been nice if we has a great downpouring rain with it too but didn't get it...around 3 30 am the street was sort of wet,so I mush have gotten a sprinkle or two.sangria wrote:Morning Largo, that wind was a beast last night. See there WAS,,40-60mph wind gusts here Sang whew..........................Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
1016 AM EDT Sat May 6 2017
.UPDATE...
A really pleasant morning to start the weekend across the area, with
cool and dry conditions noted in area observations. Morning water
vapor imagery shows deep cyclonic flow across much of the east
coast, with plenty of dry air over Florida. At the surface, low
pressure continues to move through the northeast, with the trailing
cold front that passed through the area yesterday now southeast of
the state and high pressure building over the Gulf of Mexico and
eastward toward the area. Some interesting weather came through last
night, with wind gusts of 40-60 mph reported in various observations
along the west coast for a few hours, due to a tight mesoscale
pressure gradient. Winds will not be that high through today, but
could still gust in the 20-25 mph range at times into the afternoon.
Otherwise, the day will be very nice, with highs in the 70s to around
80, dew points in the 40s and 50s, and relative humidity on the low
side.
Several wind-related hazards are out for today, including a High Surf
Advisory and a High Rip Current Risk and any beach-goers today
should use extra caution.
The forecast generally remains on track with no morning update
needed.

NWS Tampa..................LONG TERM...
The 500 mb omega block is forecast to slowly break down
through the week. The closed low centered near southern
California will slowly fill then move across the southern
Mississippi Valley as an open wave. This wave moves off the
Georgia coast Saturday with the tail end moving through
forecast area. The associated week cold front will make it
into far north Florida but will remain north of forecast
area. Will continue a small chance of showers and
thunderstorms on Saturday.

Good Morning!
The winds have subsided quite a bit here thank goodness. A large fire broke out at Starkey Park yesterday. It spans a large area between Little Rd and the Toll Road. A voluntary evacuation was enacted, but has now been lifted. The Toll Road is still closed for a stretch. So far it has burned 2200 acres and is 30% contained, but they should get a better handle on it today.

Update on the West Mims fire. Mandatory evacs are now in place for some folks.

Northwest winds blew smoke into my area for an hour or so yesterday but didn't make it down to ground level. Many reports of it raining ash in Jacksonville.

From NWS JAX....."Smoke from the growing West Mims Wildfire in the Okeefenokee National Wildlife Refuge will impact southern portions of Charlton and inland portions of Nassau Counties through the early to mid- morning hours on Sunday. Visibilities may be reduced to one quarter mile at times in these areas. Winds on Sunday morning will shift to a northwesterly direction, which will shift the smoke plume back into the metro Jacksonville area by the late morning and afternoon hours."

7 day for my area. The heat returns. In a sense I hope we're about done with fronts moving through. They kill rain chances for a few days. I'm ready for the summer time pattern to settle in with the seabreeze storms a few days a week. Of course I'm partial to a west coast dominant seabreeze pushing inland with a merger of it and the east coast seabreeze just west of the St Johns River and pushing east!

yes with the winds dying down it should be a bit easier on those fighting the firesangria wrote:Good Morning!
