Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
Stay alert today folks..Both NWS Tampa and Melbourne have this warning in their discussions..............................One interesting note...GFS does indicate modest helicity lvls thru
the 0-3KM lyr by sunset tonight over the nrn CWA, pushing into the
srn CWA in the predawn hrs. While the threat is quite low, rotating
storms cannot be completely ruled out.

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
complex scenario appears to be evolving for today, as widespread
cloudiness and ongoing convection casts considerable uncertainty.
As short-wave troughing rotates eastward/northeastward across the
area, southerly/southeasterly flow will become established across
much of the warm sector east and southeast of the developing surface
low. Strength of ascent spread across the area suggests that
multiple rounds of widespread showers and storms will move across
the area through the period, with at least modest diurnal
destabilization allowing a general increase in convective
coverage/intensity through the afternoon. Storms are expected to
increase across Florida and southern Georgia from early in the
period through the afternoon, with locally damaging winds likely to
be the primary given moderately strong, deep-layer southwesterly
flow.

Hopefully this front will weaken some wind wise so no 50-60+ winds here..dont need any storm damage here for sure, but this storm is strong so I took in things that can blow around etc.

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
Good morning. Very windy with fast moving low level clouds moving northeasterly with the flow out of the SW. No rain so far at my place. Last night it was north of me, this AM, just south and inland from me. At the moment it doesn't appear the 4-5" widespread totals for Levy county are going to verify. However, it could still all come together later today. I am going to head out and do my rain dance. Hope it works.

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
Morning all. Today is my slowest day of the week with work. Perfect timing as I'll be able to watch the weather a little more closely.
Had 1.19" of rain overnight/early morning with a few waves of showers/storms. The southern part of the county had a couple tornado warnings but no touchdowns that i'm aware. Another wave of storms is lifting NE and should be here in the next 30 minutes or so. Then the "main event" should come later as the front approaches.
Good luck to all. Hope everyone can get at least an inch.

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
gee north and central florida under the gun later today..bad storms folks..............Multiple rounds of potentially severe convection will affect parts
of the region through the afternoon and evening. The latest
observational data and short-term guidance suggest that the most
concentrated and semi-focused severe risk should exist across
central/north-central parts of the FL peninsula and southeast GA
today into this evening. A very moist air mass with surface
dewpoints in the 70s already exists across the FL peninsula.
In terms of an initial early-day risk, as has already been observed
in the pre-dawn hours, a few supercells remain a possibility across
the north-central FL Peninsula in vicinity of a remnant boundary.
Additional somewhat more banded storms will move in from the eastern
Gulf of Mexico through the afternoon/early evening, with additional
inland development across north FL into GA. Any cluster-preceding
semi-discrete storms may pose a tornado risk as low-level shear
gradually increases and additional destabilization occurs, while
damaging winds will be a more certain possibility through the
afternoon and evening.

A OK here in Cedar Key. Windy and the tide is running quite high, but no real problems. Wind appears in the 30 kt. range so far, but not enough right now to do any damage. The solid rain shield hit about 15 minutes ago, with mostly moderate rain so far and no lightning to speak of. Radar shows maybe some heavier stuff hitting in the next 30 minutes or so.

Thanks Largo. Â I've been monitoring radar closely. Â The earlier storm I posted radar of did go tornado warned and passed a couple miles to my south. Â Too close for comfort. Â It had a nice hook echo for a short time.
It rained buckets for about 15 minutes. Â Ran out to check the gauge after it passed and got a quick .83".

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
baynews9 met..(clipped)................There is an Enhanced Risk of severe thunderstorms through this evening for Central Florida.
A large and potent upper level trough and closed low over the mid Mississippi valley will continue to sink southeast into the lower Mississippi valley this afternoon and across the southeastern states tonight, before lifting out to the northeast on Thursday.
As the surface low lifts out, a trailing cold front will move across the southeastern states the remainder of today, then south through the area tonight and Thursday.
Ample low level moisture within the deep layered southwest wind flow ahead of the front combined with sufficient instability, will support increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms over the area the remainder of today and continuing into tonight.
Strengthening wind fields will support increasing shear within the atmosphere which will be supportive of organized supercells with a favorable environment for severe storms to develop with damaging winds the primary hazard, with a potential for a tornado or two as well.
Hi-res computer models show an increasing threat for multiple rounds of severe storms moving in from the Gulf and affecting the region during the afternoon and evening.

Heavier stuff coming onshore now. Still no lighting, just strong gusty winds now up to 36 kts. Rain total so far not that impressive, but as these discrete, stonger cells embedded in the line hit I am sure the total will add up quickly.
