Howdy everyone!
I'm so glad that everyone seems to have gotten on part of the #deluge. I'm happy to report that I have 1" sitting in my gauge currently. The highest wind gust from the APRS PWS says 34mph. That was mid morning, and the pup was hiding under blankets because it sounded so loud... lol
Largo, thanks for posting all of those updates. I was very busy with work today and didn't have time for squat!
Hey WaterDipper, my folks are in Homosassa and swear they get hosed and Crystal River/Cedar Key always gets the good rains!!

That is funny. We say Citrus county gets all the rain and Cedar Key has a rain shield. Florida weather is highly variable and there are "rainy spots" in all areas of the state,. There are also areas that seem to get missed more often than others. Your folks in Homosassa must live in one as Citrus county gets a lot of rainfall every year compared to their neighbors to the north and south.

I had 1.40" in my gauge. Not the deluge they predicted, but every drop counts. My monthly total of 2.70" is looking way better than the prior 8 months!! We are trending in the right direction. Just hope the monsoons of 2016 don't return anytime soon.

Good morning everyone. Yes, indeed we did have a good line of storms pass through. I do believe we got about two inches thanks to one really heavy line and one moderate one. Much appreciated! It sure is very warm and muggy though.

Yesterday's radar loop. The storm line wasn't really set up when it went through here and it was moving fast. Only got about quarter inch.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Melbourne FL
855 AM EDT Thu May 25 2017
.DISCUSSION...
Current-Tonight...10Z Cape sounding shows a PWAT of 1.55 inches with
700/500mb temperatures of +7.1C/-8.9C respectively. The large upper
trough over the Deep South will finally swing northeastward away
from the area later this evening and overnight. Weak surface frontal
boundary across north-central FL pushing steadily southward today
with pre-frontal band of precipitation near the Cape extending
southwestward through south-central Osceola County. Cannot rule out
a few strong storms southward until later this afternoon. Threats
continue to be heavy downpours, lightning, gusty winds and perhaps
some small hail. Some gradual improvement northward as the front
passes with winds becoming W/NW, thinning skies, and drier
conditions overall. Temperatures will still manage L-M80s areawide,
except some U80s possible near Melbourne southward. W-WNW winds will
approach 15 mph with some higher gusts today. Light W/NW winds
tonight as the pressure gradient relaxes and conditions mostly dry.
Skies becoming MClear this evening/overnight. Lows cooler than
recent and generally in the L60s, except M-U60s along the immediate
Treasure Coast, and cannot rule out some U50s northward across north
Lake/inland Volusia counties.

Afternoon all!
No change in my gauge, as all I received in the latter part of the day was "mist."
In case you are interested, NOAA put out their forecast for this season....
Above-normal Atlantic hurricane season is most likely this year
And here is AccuWeather's take on the season.....
2017 Atlantic hurricanes to pose threat to southeastern US despite possible onset of weak El Nino

Good morning. It is a very pleasant 55 degrees at the moment. Can't beat it for late May. One more cooler day with a high of 87 and low dewpoints. The 90's return tomorrow with nightime lows gradually getting back to the low 70's by the end of the holiday weekend.

Thanks Largo. I opened up the slider to let some of the fresh air knock the temp down indoors a few degrees. Should delay the AC kicking on by a couple of hours.
GFS rainfall forecast for the next 9 days. Looks like a more summerlike pattern returns next week after our great weekend weather.

TGIF!! 55 degrees here as well. Wish these temps would last through the Memorial Day weekend, but it is late May and the heat will return by tomorrow. With the breeze and low humidity, yesterday felt more like April. Probably the last of this type of weather until October. Better enjoy it while we can.

Kind of scary with the Mets mentioning the Gulf and the West Coast of FL as a possible hotspot again this year. Let's hope we have a nice, quiet season. Don't need any Hermines or Mathews near FL anytime soon. The damage and headaches they cause to people's lives FAR outway any beneficial rainfall the state needs right now.

Amen to that. Jenny took a significant hit from Hermine. Matthew scared the hell out of me. 30 miles further west would have been a disaster. The coast was trashed enough the way it was.

wow Aug. Love those radar loops. You can see just how darn lucky we got with Matthew. I don't mind admitting that I was really nervous when he was approaching, then breathing a HUGE sigh of relief when he wobbled a bit, then guilt for realizing that while he wasn't my immediate worry, he would become someone else's.

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
Watching the radar loop of Hermine brings back bad memories. The entire Big Bend from Apalachicola all the way down to Cedar Key really took a significant hit. THe upper bend in Wakulla got more wind, but all got the surge. All the small towns like Suwannee, Horseshoe Beach, Steinhatchee, Keaton Beach had a major storm surge due to the way Hermine came in, and the U shape of the coastline helped funnel the water up into the Bend. I didn't get it too bad, but I still had to move out for over a week. Friends in Cedar Key lost their homes and businesses and still haven't been able to get back. This area is HIGHLY vulnerable to storm surge as Wednesday's 3 foot surge due to a spring cold front showed. I guess that is the cost of living in a risky area, and with the sea level currently rising it is only going to get worse.StAugustineFL wrote:waterdipper wrote:LargoFL wrote:yes we might be in for a bad season huhsangria wrote:Afternoon all!

Re: CLOSED 5/8/2017 Florida/Alabama Weather Blog
Morning. It's another pleasant one with a current temp of 58. I suspect this will be the last morning of 50's until late September or October.
Yes Largo, it does appear the rainy season may be trying to set up next week. From Tuesday to next Friday my rain chances are currently 20%/40%/40%/50%. As we know those summertime storms are hit/miss. One area gets 2" while 5 miles down the road gets .02". As long as I see 40-50% rain chances in the forecast regularly I will be pleased.
