Re: CLOSED 7-1-17 Florida/Alabama Weather
Nice pics JR. Someone was feeling creative.
Thanks for the updates Largo. I got what I call the "skipper". Good line of thunderstorms was just to my west but the seabreeze was just to my east. A transfer of energy of sorts weakened the storms heading my way then the seabreeze blew up along I-95. It did rain for 3 hours non-stop at an extremely light rate. Just finishing up now with totals less than 1/4"

This depicts it fairly well. Good storms along the St Johns that poofed then redeveloped along the 95 corridor. I was in between the two.

Morning Largo,
It looks like you won the rain lottery this morning!
Yesterday was a bust for me. Every time something tried to get near me, it poofed. I had thunder most of the first part of the day and rain danced all around; some folks got some decent rain. I have another shot this morning, but looks to be better chances south and north of me. Go figure!

Official total from my gauge for yesterday was .22". Prospects are good today. HRRR brings 1-2" later. I can buy into that with all the morning convection moving onshore.

The Tampa area is #1 for air to ground lightning strikes...followed by my area. I am surprised we don't have to pay lightning deductables and higher rates like we do hurricanes....meanwhile every year, year after year blizzards(with high winds and snow that makes roofs collapse) have no higher premiums and deductables...we are screwed and they get low rates off our backs!!!yet have the biggest dollar amounts every year that add up to way more than hurricanes...

Not complaining, but I was sure hoping for a good storm this morning. It broke apart just as it arrived. 2 rounds of 0.1 this morning and it looks to be another (3rd in a row) mostly cloudy and a little wet kinda day. If this holds, I'll be eyeing the beach later. These wide-spread rains are really good for us.
Good luck later, Aug. I saw that line jump across you yesterday, but slow rains are good too.
Is anything getting down to you BillsFan? I haven't been watching too closely the last couple of days.
Here was Friday night's sunset by the way. Check it from an angle and the colors are closer to true.

there is one plus with these storms..with the ground soaking wet here.. there isn't any 60mph winds with these storms..matter of fact hardly any wind at all...don't want any tree's coming down in high winds.

Love the pic JR.
Had a 10 minute burst of heavy rain earlier but now steady for 20 minutes or so. Heavier than yesterday's hours long drip. I eyeballed the gauge awhile ago and looked to have been around .4" at the time. Gotta be easily past .5" now. Some thunder earlier but it has subsided.

That was a great pic JR, thanks for sharing. :-)
.8" here for the morning so far with heavy sprinkles ongoing. The thunder/lightning was good this morning. I'm not positive, but I may have had a lightning strike. I have an approx 25 year old Bonsai Natal Plum that split and the bulk of it was laying on my front porch sidewalk when I went out to check the gauge a while ago.
I am NOT a happy camper :-(

Little comma head offshore headed towards Pinellas. Not sure if it'll remain intact but something to watch for now.

Ouch! I'm so sorry, San. If I'm seeing it right, it may have already had an issue. Some select cuttings might help it live on.
It does look like a good rain day for you.

Wow, busy day for many of you I see.
Sorry about your tree San
JR - nothing for me at for two days. I would like a storm to cool it off!
Largo- glad to see your OK, but your poor dogs. Have you ever tried those Thundershirts for them? I've heard good things.
Gome- Good point on the insurance premiums. We do get the raw deal! And don't give them any ideas on lightning insurance lol!

Re: CLOSED 7-1-17 Florida/Alabama Weather
Yeah JR, I was thinking about trying cuttings again. I've tried a few times when I've pruned, but never had any luck. From what I've read, it needs to be hardwood cuttings and all of mine have always been fresh green cuttings. I guess this could be my chance to see if hardwood will root.
I don't know how old those live Aug, but mine is in the neighborhood of 25 years old I think. They used to be very popular as privacy shrubs in Florida due to the massive thorns on them, but a nursery told me they lost popularity many years ago.
Billsfan, hope you get some rain soon. I was feeling your pain with little rain up here for the month. I was only just over 3" for July until today's rain.

Thanks for that JR. I have never read about rooting softwood in moist sand. I have just tried in a standard potting medium. I think I will try both hardwood and softwood rooting following those instructions.
The fragrance from the flowers is unbelievable. That plant is right up near my front door in the courtyard area and I can smell it out to the end of the driveway when it is in full bloom.

NWS Tampa.............Mon Jul 24 2017
This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for West Central And Southwest
Florida.
.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.
...THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Scattered thunderstorms over the adjacent Gulf waters early this
morning will push onshore the Florida west coast through the
remainder of the morning, and will then slowly migrate inland
through the early afternoon. Overall storm coverage today will be
less than previous days as some drier mid level air moves into the
region. Even so thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of
producing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning
strikes as they move to the east and northeast around 10 mph. The
drier air aloft will ensure that the storms end quickly during the
late afternoon and early evening hours. Remember if threatening
weather approaches your location, move indoors immediately.

Re: CLOSED 7-1-17 Florida/Alabama Weather
Good Monday morning. Well we had our first widespread rain event of the summer over the weekend. It stormed all around me on Saturday, but Sunday it socked in and I got 2.50". Early this AM we had another batch come through and drop an additional 0.50". Last night I finally heard the "rain" frogs chirping for the first time this summer as they are extremely happy. I hadn't heard them since last summer and I had forgotten how loud they can be. I guess the mosquitos will be next. Anyway, it looks like the next few days will be drier before another potential frontal trough enhances the morning storm pattern next weekend.
