Supervolcano Yellowstone

Being a stargazer and a weather watcher you realize our planet Earth is the base for what we do. So here is an interesting topic that is in the news as of late. Yellowstone National Park is sitting on top of a Supervolcano in fact it's active. The last week there has been an earthquake swarm near the volcano it's self. Yellowstone is known for earthquake swarms and it is a tale tale sign of a supervolcano. There Have Been 400 Earthquakes In The Vicinity Of The Yellowstone Supervolcano Within The Last 7 Days . That's more than has been recorded in a week in over five years. Will it blow? Here is a quote from theoretical physicist Michio Kaku from an interview with Shepard Smith.

the “danger” we are now facing with the caldera is that it’s long overdue for an eruption it could rip the guts out of the USA.

He goes on to say Scientists currently believe that there’s a 10% chance that a “supervolcanic Category 7 eruption” could take place this century.

That is a pretty wild story! Has anyone linked it to AGW yet?!?!

Hope I'm not around to see something like that.  I thought I heard something today it would be like 6000 Mt St Helens.  Not sure I agree with the ash distribution though.  Wouldn't time of year and prevailing wind flow at the time ultimately be the decider? Maybe there'd be a huge heat ridge over the desert SW bringing a strong southerly flow over the region.

Thats where we combine physical geography,meteorology, fluid dynamics and thermal dynamics....LOL The ash would be taken by intense heat high in to the atmosphere. When particles rise to that level they get grabbed by the Southern and Northern branches of the Jet Stream.The Jet Stream flow is from West to East. Then everything that goes up comes down,but from that height and with a Jet Stream as a dispersal mechanism that ash can travel a quarter of the way around the globe......That help?

I don't know, lol. The jet isn't always zonal. What is there's a huge trough over the southwestern states and the jet is moving from SW to NE over the central states at, for example, the 250MB level - or around 35000 feet?

Picture the Jet Stream as The Mississippi River. Then picture the way the river meanders.Now if you have a gazillion inches or rain it will follow the flow of the river but will overwhelm it, meaning the meanders wont matter the water will follow the flow in the general direction of the river. Same with that river of air called the jet stream, it can meander with high and low pressure all it wants but it's overall flow is zonal. When ash rises and spreads through the troposphere and even as high as the mesosphere then it will overwhelm the jet stream and follow the general flow....Just as a flood on the Mississippi River does....
