This front underperformed by my house. Mostly very light rain. By the time it started raining hard, the front pushed through really fast and I ended up with 0.50".LargoFL wrote:WD how did Your area make out last night with the storms?...a lot of rain by you?

Pulled in over 2" of rain yesterday - several hours of sprinkles and light rain, followed by a nice deluge around dinner time.
That was a nice bit of one-upmanship by Nick Foles -- I loved it!!!
Not that I like the Eagles so much, but it was good to see them take the game.

I only remember getting the flu once or twice in my lifetime, but I do get the annual flu shot --- only because it's free from my employer. Otherwise, I would just skip it. I'm one of those "crazies" that believe that vaccines are not as safe as we are led to believe, especially with young children getting blasted with so many shots, so early in life. "Back in my day" whenever kids in the neighborhood got sick, the parents would hold a party for all the kids to play together! I got the mumps and chickenpox that way, and shared the measles.

I was sorta in the same boat as WD. Ended with .63" most of which was light sans a few bursts of moderate to heavy rain for a short time. No lightning, no thunder. Looks like a great week temp wise. Birds have returned in force chirping away at sunrise. That's my signal the freezes may be over for the season.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
938 AM EST Wed Feb 7 2018
.FOR THE MORNING UPDATE...
Patchy early morning fog has lifted across the area
with predominately mostly sunny skies over west central
and southwest Florida...with some high thin broken cirrus
over the region. High pressure surface and aloft will
continue to hold over west central and southwest Florida
today with high temperatures running about 10 degrees above
climatic normals. Temperatures will range from the upper
70s north to the low/mid 80s south.
Conditions will become favorable for areas of fog to
develop tonight with sea fog possible, which could push
locally onshore. A weakening cold front will approach north
Florida tonight and will stall across the central Florida
peninsula on Thursday as it becomes parallel to the U/L
flow. Main impact will be slightly drier air advecting
across portions of the region with dew points on Thursday
dropping into the mid 50s north to the lower 60s central.
Otherwise, temperatures will continue to run above climatic
normals. The frontal boundary will retreat rapidly back to
the north on Friday across the southeast U.S. with higher
dew point air returning to the entire forecast area with dew
points climbing generally into the mid 60s...with
temperatures continuing to run above climatic normals.
&&
.TBW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
FL...None.
Gulf waters...None.

rea Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Jacksonville FL
939 AM EST Wed Feb 7 2018
...Much Warmer & Breezy Today...
...Rain Chances Increase from the WNW late Today...
.UPDATE...
Surface high pressure ridge axis extended across NE FL, just south
of I-10 corridor this morning from a center over the western
Atlantic. Morning fog and low stratus that formed under this ridge
has mostly erode east of I-75, however low stratus still impacted
areas along and west of I-75 corridor from near Ocala toward
Homerville, and out across Apalachee Bay. Visible satellite
indicated sea fog linger over the Gulf Coast from south of Cedar
Key toward St. Marks. Across SE GA, generally along and north of a
Homerville toward Jesup line, a more turbulent airmass existed
ahead of an approaching surface cold front and pre-frontal
convection. A few light sprinkles moved across these areas this
morning ahead of the main line of precipitation, which was still
upstream across Al and the western Fl Panhandle.
Much warmer today with shallow warm air advection pattern in place
ahead of the approaching cold front. The 12Z JAX RAOB indicated
winds of 20-30 kts just above the surface which will mix down
through early afternoon before low clouds thicken due to diurnal
heating creating breezy conditions. A few light sprinkles and very
light showers will be possible through early afternoon across SE
GA, with also a few light showers possible this afternoon across
NE FL due to thickening low level cumulus field. Build of measurable
rainfall will hold off until late afternoon for SE GA, and until
late tonight for NE FL. A few isolated afternoon tstorms possible
for SE GA where deeper moisture and low level instability will
converge. Strongest dynamics eject NE of the region with the
surface low this afternoon, so expected a fading line of showers
and a few thunderstorms will sag southward across the region into
tonight. Main convective concern from thunderstorms will be gusty
winds of 40-50 mph this afternoon and evening, across SE GA from
Homerville to Jesup northward.

Crazy day in Palm Beach County today. First, a young guy was shot while driving on 95 in Boca, crashed and died. 95 closed for hours.
A little later, a man in Lantana shot a woman, threw her in car, drove the wrong way on 95, crashed into several cars, and several cars crashed trying avoid the madman. Police caught up with him finally, tasared him with no results, so the police officer shot and killed him. I-95 was closed completely for hours and hours. Turns out the guy shot perhaps killed someone else yesterday too. Sad and crazy.

Good morning Largo. Around 6-7 years ago gas prices were nearly $4.00/gallon. Not sure of the exact year but it was much higher than now. I was just discussing this the other day, not sure why it’s so high. It should be much lower.

Largo where were you when gas was 3.50 - 4.00 a gallon 3 yrs ago?
On a good note oil has been finally coming down on the market. Finally US OIL is taking over. Hoping it keeps coming down. On another note I use Diesel at 2.99 a gallon right now.
Had 83 yesterday hottest day of the new year.

Good morning John. Yes true! OPEC.
Was it only 3 years ago? Geesh, I thought it longer. We are definitely heading on the right track with generating our own oil. Hopefully that keeps up and doesn’t change with mid-term elections looming around the corner.

Florida Climate summary for January. Cold and wet for central Florida (St. Pete broke a 60-year low), cold and dry for the panhandle. South Florida broke high temp records (84° in Miami Jan 12!), but overall was cooler than normal.

In the summer of 1973, I remember my Dad blowing his top when gas exceeded 30 cents per gallon.

Gas price nostalgia.
My first car filled up for < $6, but I was also only making $2.90 an hour. I got my first ever raise when minimum wage went up to $3.10 in 1980. I make a little bit more than that now-a-days. But where I had to work 2 hours to fill the gas tank, my daughter has to work 4 hours to fill hers, and she is ~50% above minimum wage.
