Post by sangria Sun Feb 25, 2018 4:18 pm

I am oh so happy  to see the models give us a chance at another cool down here in Florida.   I know most folks like this warm weather, but I'm sorry, these temps in February are just too warm!

NWS Tampa is forecasting possibly over 20 days with >80 degree highs here.  gag

Bring on the 60s and 70s!!

Usually on my third try. When the Amazon thing comes up I close the window. I have the blog bookmarked so I bring up a new window, Amazon thing pops up -repeat. After three of those it doesn’t show up any more. Dunno. Are you having to log in each time? I don’t.

Jury duty on Tuesday. Since I'll be halfway down the county anyway, hopefully, I'll get an early release. I could use a calming walk before heading home to greet the in-laws.

I would say to delete the blog. It could be irreparably offensive.

Sorry to hear about the RIFs, Aug. I got snagged in 2003. It was quite detrimental to my long-term financial status. I narrowly escaped one (was granted a request for transfer) a few years back, as my previous team was ripped to shreds, just a few months later. I just need survive another 5 years as well.

I was excused from Jury Duty yesterday, even before it started, so like the good employee that I am, I skipped out to Polk County to handle some personal business. Citrus Blossom season has begun as well. I love the intoxication of driving through acres of citrus groves. I used to "live" out there during the workweek (worked several years in Orlando). For 3-4 months of the year, the entire atmosphere in rural Central Florida is laced with the smell of citrus blossoms. Took lunch and a walk in the early afternoon, before heading home to greet the in-laws (Mother and Sister I-L's). Nothing new to report.

Mean temp here for February was 72°, tied for the highest on record (1932) since records began in 1892.

The pollen here is terrible, but at least it looks like the leaf drop is slowing.

Hey BillsFan.  I can't speak for Aug's case, but there are multitude of reasons where lay-offs (RIFs) can occur, including those that you mentioned.  Here's a couple of links that provide a thought overview.

Reasons for Being Laid Off
Top 10 Reasons for Company Layoffs

In my case, the company was locally known as a 'sweat shop' (i.e. excessive work hours, with little in the way of compensating benefits), and generally had some layoffs every year.  When I was laid-off, many of the individuals were long-term IT managers, and it was at the end of the 2nd year term for a new CIO.  In other words, he wanted some of his own folks to come in, and/or just wanted to try fresh blood.

Luckily, I was treated fairly (except of course for the lay-off itself, which they gave me on my birthday), due to time-in-service (15 years) and level in the company (director).
I was reassigned for 4 months, to assist in a different IT department, while I was provided resume assistance and interview training, financed a major industry certification, and 50% of my work time could be utilized for job searches and networking.
I got 9-months of unemployment, in parallel with 6-months of severance pay.  In addition, I had some stock options that I had to cash out within 6 months.  Sadly, I was unemployed for 1.5 years, and only had a couple of tiny contract jobs during that time.

Companies seem to be getting better, but a lot of folks still got/get a walk to the door and a boot in the backside.

Of note, that boss that I was temporarily assigned to, had been my boss in years prior, and paved the way for my current job, 10-years later.  He was also on the team that was devastated here, but survived that one.

Looks like a great park JR!  Love the outdoors.  I've been fumbling over words trying to reply to the job stuff but can't quite get it right so have put myself on the bench. Non-related to anything said here. Just an internal struggle as to what I'd like to share but can't. #braindrain

Glad you got a little sprinkle bills.  Something is better than nothing.  That time of year!

One more warm day here then pleasant and perhaps "cool" for several days.  It will be nice.

Earlier I said St. Pete tied the average high for the month of February with 72°. Turns out (according to WU anyway) we smashed it at 74°. And we got a whopping 0.25" of rain, second to 1918 when we got 0.12".

When it does rain there is going to be a river of oak tree stuff (leaves, pollen, yellow stringy things, hobbits) pouring into the bay.

It was definitely a warm February for sure. I'll be interested in seeing how the March numbers compare to Feb after the cool start to the month.

Did some lemon tree surveillance today. Buds abound. Looks like it's going to be a bumper crop if my "tree" doesn't snap in two.

Did some lemon tree surveillance today.  Buds abound.  Looks like it's going to be a bumper crop if my "tree" doesn't snap in two.

My orange tree is showing good buds, but it also has black soot on the leaves and the bark on the trunk is falling off.  Not sure how this will end

Looks like I'm not invited to the cool down party. Sad
