CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability
May is here. Higher temps along with increased dew point values will be on us any day now like stink on doggy doo. Enjoy any remaining cool nights/pleasant days as the sand in the hour glass is about to reach its' expiration date. May also brings potential pre-season tropical mischief. What will May 2018 bring? We shall see.

Alberto 2012, Beryl 2012, Ana 2015 and Bonnie 2016 are some recent examples of early tropical storms.

Thanks for the new blog Aug
Congrats on the roof approval. Yeah, based on our re-roofing after Wilma it is noisy, especially the first day, tear off etc.. hopefully it goes quickly.

Good morning Largo and all! Thanks for the extra coffee today.
Ditto what Largo said on the last blog, I'm sure happy it is not July/August with the blob down yonder.
We can certainly use the rain, but the Air & Sea Show is this weekend, I sure hate to see millions disappointed if it is postponed.
Have a nice day!

Re: CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability
Been missin' y'all. Caught a breather this morning to catch up. Work has been brutal. And I'm starting up a big project. Big computer systems' changes coming mid-month and it has me worried. Changes last month have had me hopping until this week.
Dryer 60's overnight has been nice to see, good breeze too, but summer is just around the corner. I'm guessing that the house gets closed up soon until October. I'm ready for some thunderstorms now.
Good news and good luck on the roof, Aug. I worked at home when having mine replaced a few years ago. Conference calls were challenging to say the least. I found a good roofer through Owens-Corning certified installers.
I guess you're on official blob-watch there, Largo. Thanks for keeping everyone up to date here!!!
Stay safe everyone. Good to see you, Phil.

Greetings all. Thanks Largo for all the morning essentials! Well we’ve had to put some quotes out on our driveway and how the rain is washing out the sand underneath. Ed has been filling the areas with dry concrete and packing it in. One quote was 21k. Yeah right. It’s always sumptin!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
245 PM EDT Thu May 3 2018
.SHORT TERM (Tonight - Friday)...
A closed upper low sits just east of the Bahamas with troughing
extending northeast into the central Atlantic east of Bermuda.
Extensive cloudiness and rain showers over that region can be seen
on satellite imagery. But lucky for us, we continue to have strong
upper level ridging extending from the central Gulf of Mexico
northeastward over the southeast U.S. to keep fair weather over
Florida for the next couple of days. On the surface, strong high
pressure near Bermuda ridges west-southwest over Florida producing a
predominant east-northeast wind flow, sunny skies and warm weather
over the Florida peninsula. No changes in this pattern is expected
over the next couple of days until the upper low moves westward by
Saturday and Sunday. More on this feature in the long term
discussion.
&&
.Mid/Long Term (Friday Night through Thursday)...
Models continue in good agreement with features around the region
this weekend and into next week. Strong early TUTT low continues to
spin over Cuba while the southern tier upper trough moves through
the Gulf Coast region and over the state weakening and
absorbing/merging the TUTT into the trough. At the surface, weak
easterly wave approaches the FL Peninsula from the SE with
increasing moisture and seabreeze interactions for scattered POPs
mainly over interior and southern areas Saturday. On Sun,
combination of weak and slow frontal boundary moving into the area
from the NW and the stalling inverted trough over the Peninsula to
keep unsettled weather in the area. Most of scattered to numerous
precip chances expected on east side of trough and along frontal
interaction, so POPs may change with exact placement and timing of
these features.
Upper trough to get reinforced in the Deep South and finally pushes
surface frontal system through the state into the W Atlantic
Mon/Tue, but lingering instability and moisture for mainly isolated
diurnal inland showers through mid week. Temps to run near to
slightly above seasonal averages through the forecast period.

Re: CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability
just clipped this from this afternoons NHC discussion..............A sharp upper-level trough extends from the north central Atlantic
southward across Bermuda, to the developing mid-level low. Gradual
develop of the low into the upper- and lower-levels is expected
through Saturday as the system drifts southward to eastern/central
Cuba by late Friday. The surface trough is expected to gradually
develop into a broad low pressure system and move WNW between the
Bahamas and Cuba during the next 48 hours, and be near southern
Florida by early Saturday. Active weather spawned by the instability
of this large and complex deep-layer low, along with abundant
moisture drawn northward in a fresh to strong SE wind flow, will
result in numerous showers and thunderstorms steadily developing
and overspreading most of the Greater Antilles, Bahamas, Turks and
Caicos, and adjacent waters by Fri, and gradually spread westward
across the Straits of Florida and into the Florida peninsula over
the weekend. Fresh to strong NE winds are expected ahead of the
trough, and fresh to strong SE winds will follow the trough,
impacting mainly the waters S of 27N-28N and W of 65W.

I feel your pain JR. Good luck on the new project. Perseverance my friend!
If the Euro is right san that's' summer weather with low 90's for highs and 70's for lows. Crank up those summertime #comfy DP's.
Thanks for the updates Largo. Looking longer term seems a wetter pattern may be settling in beyond this weekend which is nice for May. Time will tell.

there is one thing i really like about this rubber roofing, none or very few seams..meaning less danger of leaks and very long lasting they say and cheaper then conventional asbestos shingles

Good advice, Largo. Been running in the IT world (and on-call 24x365) for almost 40 years now, so I have certainly had my stressful moments, and times of extreme work hours. I've learned over the years on how to create my own balance, and TAKE the flexibility I need to survive. As long as I kick butt when the heat is on, I get away with more relaxed effort at other times. I pretty much control my own office schedule, and work remotely at will. The next several weeks are looking interesting, and will most likely create a challenge, but I'll work in the moments to manage the mental and physical health. 5 more years of this and then I pull out and find something fun to do.
I'm hoping that our little rain event reaches this far north. Good luck for good rains down there, Bills.

Re: CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability
From one of my team members, here at work.
The owner was a friend of mine and my e-cig supplier.
Hello Team,
I am sharing this for my brother. His store “Blenders Smoothies and Supplements” was robbed last night. The robbers got away with quite a few things and it has really put a big financial hit on them. He and his wife setup a robbery recovery fund through gofundme. There is no obligation to contribute but I ask if you can possible share this information. Thank you.
“Last night May 3, 2018 our family owned small business was robbed. They stole all of our electronics from our store. Including IPAD cash register systems, TV's, Laptops, cash and other merchandise. This is a tremendous hit to us due to the fact that our insurance somehow does not cover theft. It covers everything BUT theft. We also had to close our store as well which causes an even bigger financial hit to us. Not only did the insurance not cover theft, they also won't cover the repairs on the front glass of the store. We have to pay out of pocket.
We love our community and our customers. We aren't asking for much, anything you can give is immensely appreciate to help us recoup after this tremendous loss. Thank you in advance for any kindness you can extend to your family. “

Largo and Billsfan, My son used to put these rubber roofs on when he lived down in fl. The company I got to do the job was very honest and told me not to do a roof over which I wanted. They told me rubber was the way to go for price. And they will put as much insulation under the rubber roof you might want within the guild lines.
He also told me that the way it seals is better for hurricane season. No air gaps for the wind to get under.

Does it come in different colors? There is a house down the road from me that has a white, I guess rubber, sheet on the roof. I thought it was underlayment but it's been months and they haven't shingled. Must be what you are talking about, I bet white would be a good reflector for the Florida Sun.
Rain chance about for tomorrow evening

ok JR good luck okJRnOldsmar wrote:LargoFL wrote:I see some of you have a high stress job, well in all my working years, ive seen a few fall victim to that job stress,it doesnt matter how much you make etc..one heart attack, one stroke changes your life..or even takes it..folks remember to take longer breaks..do more things that are fun and relaxing..just a tip from an old ancient guy who knows its the truth ok.
