Aw Largo, getting everything spruced up for company. So very nice. Did you say 2 grand kids? The neighbor behind us watches 1 grand daughter and he’s moving all day. They grow up fast. When Ed’s grand kids came out to the farm, we’d have to take keys out of mower, tractor and ATV. They’re still up north, thank heavens! Bring on the rain! We are so ready!

Welp I just hopped over to Category 6 and they are very bullish on this system. Like I  mentioned, mets are saying our season might be early (if only a few weeks) so it sure will be interesting to see the models evolve over the next week.  I'm not a race car fan like a lot of you but what's the saying, "Gentleman, start your engines!"

NWS MIAMI (clip)...................Abundant drier and stable air will continue to filter into South FL
today as surface ridge builds across the region. Temperatures will
be in the mid to low 80s along the east metro areas and into the 90s
for the west coast with a northeast wind gradually shifting east by
the afternoon hours. Upper trough that brought the front early in
the week will move northeast, which will allow for the tropical
moisture over the western Caribbean to move northwest into South
Florida. Expect a gradual increase in cloud cover with better
chance for a few showers mainly for southern Miami-Dade County
Thursday while most of Broward, Palm beach and west coast remains
dry. as moisture continues to increase northward Friday, the
chances of rain start to increase across much of the Forecast area
by Friday afternoon. The model guidance continue to suggest PWATs
of 2 inches for much of S FL beginning Friday through the
weekend. Therefore, expect enhanced rain chances Friday through
the weekend. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s and
near 90s through Friday. However, the abundant cloud cover
temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s through the end of
the weekend.

Sunday through Tuesday: Models are hinting on a stall mid- level
low forming off the western Gulf coast of FL Sunday. This cut off
low will linger over the northern Gulf coast before eventually
been pick up by the main flow by mid week. As a result, This will
keep abundant plume of moisture concentrated over most of the FL
peninsula enhancing the chance of showers and iso thunderstorms
through early next week. High and low temps will be around normal
for this time of year.

Good morning, All. (oops, already afternoon)

Work keeps trying to suck me into its black hole, and I keep fighting it back, but barely keeping up with everything.

For now I'm enjoying the near normal 90/70 days of May. It is nice to still have some cool feel to the mornings before the sun hits. I'm ready for the rains to start kicking in soon. I'm not ready for the models to start targeting Florida though. Another 2-year window like 04/05??? Sure hope not.

Aug: How did your battle with the armadillo go? I've got one tearing up a plant bed now, but I can't find its hole(s).

Go Lightning -- They're saying here that we match up well against the Caps. I've never wished for someone to really get hurt in hockey, but Marchand certainly deserves a good whoopin'. Glad to see the Bruins go down.

Good afternoon.

My armadillo moved elsewhere JR.  Good luck with yours.

I too hope FL is not a target. Had enough excitement with Matthew and Irma in 2016/17 plus several indirect or direct effects from tropical storms (those I don't mind).

Latest GFS is getting into closer range now showing something (not the ULL in the next few days) being drawn north out of the western CARB at around 200 hours.  I was mistaken in an earlier post questioning early season storms coming from down south but June climatology (although this would be late May) favors that area.

I saw that too Largo but didn't post the image. Only thing I would pay attention to now is the GFS is sniffing something out from the CARB and has been moving up the time frame. May not be a ghost storm after all. We shall see if it develops and if so, where it wants to go from there. Let's see if NHC puts up a yellow circle in a few days. Until then it's speculation.

Looks like the 12Z Euro has the non-tropical disturbance (not the same as the GFS in the longer term) coming in the next few days further west.  Would be a good signal for those wanting/needing rain.

Morning all. Bummer Largo no treats. Well the models are beginning to get in synch for a wet period to begin this Sat-Sun and go into next week. The rain totals are impressive, esp for bills but we all are going to receive hefty totals. Maybe things will clear out by Memorial Day. Here’s hoping the fire danger is quashed for the season.

Looks like pretty good rain changes this weekend into next week. We need it badly over here. I'll be in Orlando next week for a work conference -- get some personal time with my daughter as well. She's taking me to Volcano Bay (new Universal water park). First water park in 15 years or so -- I'm hoping it's cloudy with no lightning.

Have fun in OBX, John. I love going up there.

Get those bananas ripe, Bills. You've got my mouth watering!

The rain totals are impressive, esp for bills but we all are going to receive hefty totals. Maybe things will clear out by Memorial Day. Here’s hoping the fire danger is quashed for the season.

ok will do JR,guess we all know these runs are way out in time..myself im watching oh...5 days out before i start believing

Thanks, Largo.  Apparently, I need to be packed already at 5 days out.  Company sent me to Atlanta 5 days out last year.  Smile
im just guessing..but i think the intensity is off on the models, yes we have alot of rain coming true, but..my guess is our rainy season is beginning a few weeks earlier...doc in his discussion said the tropical season might be a few weeks longer on each end due to global warming..something we need to watch out for and if true..maybe we need to have our preps ready earlier..we'll see how this plays out...good luck JR..might only be a heavy rain maker

John and JR, enjoy your trips!

I too am looking forward to a good dose of the wet stuff. Larry Cosgrove, a well respected met, has this to say..............

"The medium range and longer term forecasts have taken a distinctly warmer turn, yet there are no signs of extensive heat waves. Thunderstorm groupings that are visible over the Great Plains and Florida are symptomatic of trends which are generally wetter outside of the lower High Plains (which should stay mostly dry through the rest of May).

A vexing issue for many synopticians is the constant forecast of tropical cyclone development shown by the GFS model suite for the Gulf of Mexico during the 11-15 day time frame. I caution that this is a known bias of the equation, "jumping the gun" every spring with a monstrous looking storm. But note that the system shown does not move forward in progression of the forecast with each run. While there will be a 500MB weakness from the Caribbean Sea northward into the Dixie states, the probability of a hurricane hitting the USA this early seems remote. I do believe, however, that a disturbance will impact FL, and eventually Appalachia, with heavy thunderstorms between May 12-20.

The threat of intense convection, and with it chances for severe weather and flooding rains, will loom over the U.S. during the next three weeks. Strong upper shortwaves will center that thunderstorm threat over the Great Plains and Midwest."
