Well it stayed dry around me most of the day yesterday. The morning started with storms training offshore in the Gulf into Dixie county to the north of me. Later in the day, storms built inland to the east of me and dumped good amount of rain. We finally had a local storm build in last night around 10 PM and ended up catching .50" in the rain gauge giving me a total of 1.30" for the event.

This AM it is cloudy and windy, but no rainfall yet. This onshore wind is really pushing in the water creating a high tide even when it is supposed to be low, and high tide today might end up in the streets in Cedar Key. Good thing this storm isn't any stronger or we would be dealing with some prolonged coastal flooding along the Big Bend.

Good morning. Between yesterday and this am 1.60 for a total. I guess I’m happy but there was a lot of moisture we missed. OTOH if we’re to get that every day through this event I’m grateful. Sorry to hear you got the short end Largo, we’ve got more rain forecast. I noticed the big low coming into the Gulf has *poofed.

one good thing with this week long rain event there are breaks in between the scattered rains, giving the water time to sink in most times huh

Post by LargoFL on Wed May 16, 2018 11:25 am

NWS Melbourne (clipped)1034 AM EDT Wed May 16 2018

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

.THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Sufficient daytime heating combined with deep tropical moisture
and local sea/lake breeze effects will produce numerous to
widespread showers and scattered lightning storms across east
central Florida today. Activity will be limited to light showers
prior to noon this morning, but increase throughout the afternoon
and continue through early evening. The highest coverage of
precipitation today is expected between 2 and 8 PM, as storms move
fairly quickly toward the northeast at around 25 to 30 MPH in
southwest steering flow.

Torrential rain, brief gusty winds of 40 to 50 MPH, and frequent
cloud to ground lightning strikes are possible with the strongest
storms today. Move indoors to safety if you hear thunder or if
skies look threatening.

.FLOOD IMPACT...
Between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall in a one to two hour period is
expected with the most intense storms this afternoon, especially
over the east coast counties. This may cause temporary inundation
of roads and other poor drainage areas, especially in locations
which received heavy rainfall over the past few days. Motorists
should reduce their speed when encountering heavy rain, and never
drive into areas where water covers the roadway.

I really liked the older blog as well. There are some old timers on the new blog but many aren’t back. Maybe the older ones don’t show up until sumptin is cookin’ so to speak. Lots of new bloggers too. I don’t care for the pace of it, I guess. Geez, if the blog crashed now, no way will it hold up when a real storm comes around! mad at pc

Had a good rain today - probably the best thus far from the "event".  Just finishing up work so no idea how much (no gauge check yet and another shower is in progress) but based on radar estimates and my own obs watching a deluge out the window for a while I'm guessing a tad over an inch.

Good morning. Cloudy and quite breezy in Cedr Key this morning. Yesterday was another day of not much rainfall here. Most of the action went around me and the two showers that did hit were quick moving and only dropped .25" and I am now at 1.55" for the event. Still some showers coming onshore in the area this AM, but unless they build up it again looks like they will go around me. We will see what the rest of the day brings. Sure hope this mess clears out for the weekend.

Morning blog. Negligible amt .05 yesterday and the sun peeked out for a bit. Very interesting with the models showing some consensus of development next week. Too early to determine ‘where’ at this point, that could be from LA to Carolinas and everywhere in between. I don’t think the models will ‘drop’ this, it’s been around too long. Def sumptin to watch early next week.

We’re getting hit with rain and passing thunder as well. My big dog, Great Pyrenees mix that we got to patrol the farm cowers in the corner when she hears thunder. We have her cut short and she looks like a sheared sheep! Every one else could care less. I tell her, Lucy you’re a trip!” She says, But Mom they didn’t have lightening like that up north. My neighbor 3 doors down lost both her garage door openers Sunday after the lightning strike. She had a whole house surge protector.
