Damn... south FL is getting a deluge today!

Not a drop for me, I'm still stuck at .80" I think for the entire event.

Now that the Euro has had a couple back to back runs showing low pressure, it is something to pay attention to. Being over a week out, it's still too early to tell what will happen...where it would go....how strong it would be...... how fast/slow moving it would be, which would determine rainfall.

I guess it's time to dust off some of the forecast tools in the closet and see what shear is up to these days.

Yeah I’m not panicking. It’s fascinating to watch the models evolve and begin to tighten up for a solution. I agree it’s too far out but this started out as a GFS fish storm and now sumptin could be in the works.

Yes there is shear, a lot. Yes SSTs are not optimal but the temps are steadily rising to be sure. If we’re in range let’s hope the shear will make it a rainmaker and nothing more. Makes sense to me. Go John! Get that roof on!!

Post by StAugustineFL on Thu May 17, 2018 6:09 pm

Good afternoon. I no longer have the tolerance for WU and avoid the blog like the plague but their radar (along with COD) is my "go-to". Plus I hate the new Disquis format. I'm sure there are trolls or "respected" members trying to hype up the potential disturbance into a pre-season cat4. Shear and SST's won't support a system that strong this time of year. The "potential" system would probably be heavily tilted in one direction based on the prevailing wind flow. I would expect as a worse case scenario a strong TS or Cat1. We shall see. I'll eat crow if needed.

Rains continues on locally. 1.46" yesterday, .72 thus far today with possibly more. IF a storm does come I'd like a little drying out time. I'm not a big fan of saturated soils before a potential disturbance bringing prolonged wind - no matter the speed.

Re: CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability

Just finished dinner. Reading my last post I may have come across a bit harsh. WU is where I got my sea-legs so to the speak. The blog (especially member blogs) were great before becoming political/agenda driven. We all probably grew up there and met many good friends in life or online. I have. It's just not my cup of tea these days. I'm a simple guy and enjoy discussing/reading about day-to-day weather or upcoming events whether it be FL or elsewhere in the CONUS. Back to weather!

No Aug, not too harsh at all. I thought I posted a similar comment a few days ago, but I didn't see it so maybe I didn't hit send or something.

Billsfan..how is it by Your immediate area??......................................
Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Miami FL
414 PM EDT Thu May 17 2018

..Heavy Rain Potential Continues through the Weekend Across South Florida...

A trough of low pressure will remain over the Gulf of Mexico this
weekend allowing for tropical moisture to continue to work into
the region from the south, with the potential for heavy showers
and thunderstorms through the weekend. Most areas will see
between 3 and 7 inches of rain during this period, but locally
higher amounts are possible. Despite ongoing drought conditions,
several periods of heavy rain may lead to local flooding concerns
through the weekend.

The grounds in Palm Beach and Broward Counties is starting to
become saturated, due to the rainfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches
with some isolated areas seeing up to 10 inches that has already
fallen since early last weekend. If the forecast rainfall
continues to pan out in the next few days, then a Flood Watch may
be needed for portions of the eastern South Florida for this
weekend. At this time, there is also a marginal risk of flooding
across the eastern areas of South Florida for Friday and Saturday
from the World Prediction Center (WPC).

Morning All,
Well the half of the roof they did looks great. It got tested late yesterday afternoon as I had 1.54 in the bucket. Had a wild ride home yesterday at 40 mph as the rain was a frog strangler. Glad I had the big truck the small car would have floated.
Aug as to to harsh I don't think so. Doc's blog has gotten to out of control. Its good to read threw quickly as there is great info there sometimes.
Fingers crossed the rest of the roof is done today.
Have a great day all!!!
