Good afternoon. Regarding the potential tropical disturbance I feel the same as 2-3 days ago. 1) seems like there'll be a system, 2) it'll be relatively weak, 3) someone, somewhere will get lots of rain.

Glad to see the west coasters reporting in with some healthy rain totals.

2 inches and still counting. Pool is overflowing -- I guess I'll wait a week before doing anything about that.

Thanks for keeping the updates coming, Largo. It's good to see that most are getting the needed rains -- and some a little extra.

Good to see Mother Nature is sharing JR. She's a good gal. I don't want to anger her and leave me high and dry, and hot next month.
My rain chances are now down to 22% for tomorrow.

Re: CLOSED May Blog: Higher Temps, Higher Dew Points, Higher Irritability

Post by LargoFL on Tue May 22, 2018 4:44 am

NWS Tampa............................LONG TERM (Thursday - Monday)...
The main concern through the long term forecast period will
be a stubborn pattern favoring heavy rainfall across the
region. This could set the stage for some additional urban
and river flooding across much of west-central and SW
Florida.

The eastern Gulf of Mexico and Florida peninsula will
continue to reside underneath a broad cyclonic flow pattern
during the middle of the week. Moist S/SE flow will continue
to advect a tropical airmass over the region with PWs near
2 inches allowing for numerous showers and storms on
Thursday.

As we get into the Friday and the weekend, attention will
shift to a developing area of low pressure in the western
Caribbean and across the southern Gulf of Mexico. Models
beginning to come into agreement on an area of low pressure,
perhaps tropical/subtropical in nature, moving into the
central Gulf into the upcoming weekend. The National
Hurricane Center is currently giving this system a 40%
chance of development in the next 5 days. Regardless of
development, the real concern with this system will be the
heavy rainfall and flooding potential given the increasingly
saturated ground across the area. Exact rainfall amounts
would ultimately be determined by the track this system were
to take but its starting to look like we will certainly be
getting more rain across the region. Unfortunately, this
would suggest a pretty miserable Memorial Day weekend with
not much sun, and a lot of clouds / rain. Soils are getting
very saturated at this point and rivers are running high
(some already in flood stage). Additional heavy rainfall is
not a welcome scenario for many spots, and hence we will
continue to closely monitor the evolution of this
disturbance for this weekend. Flood Watches may be needed
for portions of the area in the coming days. Temperatures
should run near or just below normal for Thursday, and then
run below normal for Friday and the weekend due to the
potential for abundant clouds and frequent showers.

Billsfan...NWS Miami..........Tue May 22 2018

...High Risk of Rip Currents Atlantic Beaches...
...Isolated to Scattered Thunderstorms Across South Florida...
...Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible With Showers and Storms...

This hazardous weather outlook is for South Florida.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

Rip currents: There is a high risk of rip currents along the Atlantic
beaches.

Thunderstorms: Isolated thunderstorms will be possible over the
Atlantic waters and east coast this morning, moving over the
interior and Gulf coast into this afternoon and evening.
Thunderstorms are expected to move into the Gulf waters late this
evening. The main threats with any storms will be cloud to ground
lightning, periods of heavy rainfall, and gusty winds.

Waterspouts: A few waterspouts are possible over the local waters
with the stronger showers and thunderstorms.

Wind: Gusts of 40 to 45 mph are possible with stronger showers and
thunderstorms.

Flooding: Showers and thunderstorms across South Florida today will
have the potential to lead to additional flooding of streets and poor
drainage areas, aggravating any ongoing flooding concerns.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

Scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms will continue
the threat of localized flooding again on Wednesday, with the
greatest likelihood of heavier rainfall and potential flooding over
the interior and Gulf coast.

A tropical disturbance is forecast to lift slowly northward into the
Gulf of Mexico late this week. Regardless of any additional
development, it is expected to bring another surge of deep tropical
moisture across South Florida, leading to numerous to widespread showers
and thunderstorms affecting the region beginning Thursday and lasting
into the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Additional periods of heavy
rainfall are likely during this time, aggravating ongoing flooding
concerns. In addition, gusty winds and locally rough seas, and
occasional lightning strikes will accompany this activity.

The risk of rip currents will remain elevated for the Atlantic
beaches through Wednesday, then again over the Memorial Day weekend.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Widespread spotter activation is not anticipated, however individual
spotters are encouraged to report flooding to the National Weather
Service forecast office in Miami.

For more information...visit the National Weather Service in
Miami website at www.weather.gov/miami.

Good Advice Here..................Heavy rain over the past week is causing many rivers to rise across the area. This includes the Alafia River at Lithia, the Little Manatee River at Wimauma and the Manatee River near Myakka Head.

Minor flooding is expected but the rivers will be watched closely as more rain is forecast to fall this week. Additional heavy rain could also cause other rivers to rise above flood stage.

Do not drive cars through flooded areas.

Special Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
745 AM EDT Tue May 22 2018

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. A broad surface low centered just east of Belize is producing a
large area of cloudiness and showers extending from the northwestern
Caribbean Sea across Cuba into the Florida peninsula. While strong
upper-level winds and dry air aloft are expected to limit
organization during the next couple of days, some gradual
subtropical or tropical development is possible late this week while
the system moves slowly northward into the central or eastern Gulf
of Mexico. Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall is
possible across western Cuba, the Cayman Islands, and much of
Florida during the next several days. For more information on the
heavy rain threat, please see products issued by your local weather
office. The next Special Tropical Weather Outlook on this system
will be issued by 800 PM EDT.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

Let’s hope this system doesn’t linger over us. We already know it’s a rainmaker and it’ll prolly create localized flooding so the sooner it’s gone the better. Thanks Bills for the banana bread!!!

Going down to Sarasota for the weekend. Doesn't look like outdoor plans are going to happen.

Afternoon everyone, it's been warm here this morning but a little bit of rain just fired up on my west side and then my east side...lol.  I am getting some sprinkles now, so hope it fills in this afternoon.

I was one super annoyed camper this morning!  Windows 10 is pushing out their "Spring 2018" update.  I received my first notice at 6am, after having already been working for 3 hours, this morning and I either had to do it then or tell it I would do it in an hour.  I was able to push it off 4 times over the course of the morning until 10:30 and BAM, it gave me no notice, no warning, no request, no NADA!

It was a 1.5 hour update - warning to y'all.   Everyone at my work is going to shut down after work and see if they can restart and get the notice.  One got the first notice around noon today.

Hey San. Just reading about the very pushy Windows update request. I can remember when it more like a polite suggestion. 1.5 hrs during the workday certainly isn’t doable. Wonder if Apple will pick up on the trend and make iPhones inoperable if their update reminders aren’t heeded! Yikes!!

NWs Miami...(snipped)......A tropical disturbance is forecast to lift slowly northward into the
Gulf of Mexico late this week, bringing another surge of deep
tropical moisture to South Florida. This may lead to numerous to
widespread showers and thunderstorms affecting the region for the end
of the week, through the weekend. Heavy rainfall is possible during
this time, aggravating ongoing flooding concerns. In addition, gusty
winds and locally rough seas, and occasional lightning will accompany
this activity.
