Re: CLOSED Beginning of 2018 Tropical Season for Florida
Happy Father's Day to all of the Dads and Granddad's here, and thanks for the well wishes.
Hoping to catch an afternoon/evening storm here, today or tomorrow (yesterday was soooo close). Looks like Tuesday has some drier air moving in.
?? Am I correct in remembering that the GFS predicted all 3 of our Gulf 'features' for this year, at least 10 days in advance??? I am not going back to find Largo's posts!!!!!

Re: CLOSED Beginning of 2018 Tropical Season for Florida
NWS Melbourne,,Flood Advisory.......
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a
* Flood Advisory for...
Southwestern Orange County in east central Florida...
Northwestern Osceola County in east central Florida...
* Until 700 PM EDT.
* At 553 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kissimmee, Bay Lake, Celebration, Intercession City and Poinciana.
* Radar indicates that 1 to 2 inches of rain has already fallen in
some locations...and another inch or two will be possible before
the rain tapers off.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Flood Advisory means heavy rainfall is causing or is likely to
cause ponding of water in urban areas and elevate river or stream
flows. Minor flooding may cause temporary lane or road closures...
but the threat of water entering homes and business is low.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause temporary flooding
of urban areas such as highways...streets...and intersections...as
well as poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
Motorists should deactivate cruise control and slow down in heavy
rainfall to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Leave safe distance
between other vehicles. Do not drive your vehicle into areas where
the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to
allow your vehicle to cross safely. Turn around...don`t drown.
State law requires headlights to be turned on when windshield wipers
are in use.
To report flooding...have the nearest law enforcement agency relay
your report to the National Weather Service Office in Melbourne.

Re: CLOSED Beginning of 2018 Tropical Season for Florida
Here's my story and I'm stickin to it!
I spent the day in Homosassa and left there about 5:30 pm. Heard some thunder while we were sitting at the table after working in the yard all day, so of course I go look at radar. Hwy 19 speckled with rain all the way into Pasco..... I decide I should probably head back home since I don't know if any of the cells will blow up.
Jump in the car and get 2 miles down the road - rain starts. It rains till I get down to that lonely high school in the middle of nowhere between Homosassa and Spring Hill. A few sprinkles down to Hwy 50 then on and off rain all the way through Spring Hill. I get off of 19 at Little Rd north of Hudson - it pours on me a couple of miles then lets up and have rain all the way till I get 2 miles north of the house. A couple of sprinkles and then nothing... I look at the road and it is dry as a bone! I get to the house and of course not a drop had fallen! After taking the pooch outside and getting her starving self fed, I look at radar. It has dried up and I am SOL AGAIN!!!!!!!

Re: CLOSED Beginning of 2018 Tropical Season for Florida
Nothing going on in my neck of the woods, just typical summer-time weather. Storms so far for June have been more miss than hit at my place, but the traditional wet areas (Chiefland, Otter Creek and Gulf Hammock) have been getting plenty. I am currently sitting at 3.15" for the month which is fairly close to normal. However, most of that rain fell on 3 days while the rest of the days have been dry. Looks like tonight we are going to transition back to the westerlies so maybe I will get an early AM shower tomorrow.

This was rather interesting to watch, Largo. Home from work I noticed that the clouds looked promising and were moving west (which is a good change), but everything poofed as it came near. I went for my evening bike ride, not expecting much, but then I heard and saw this coming. Check radar and sure enough, it was building, within 10 miles to the east, and heading straight at me. I was expecting not to make it home dry. As I continued to ride and watch, it completely poofed upon arrival, but in its wake was a fantastic full and bright rainbow. One of the best I've ever seen. Sadly no rain at my place, but a nice ending to the day regardless.
