Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
Looks like the Taylor, Dixie and Levy coastline has the bullseye again this morning for the rainfall. This is the favored location for heavy morning rains during the westerly flow regime we have been in so much this summer. I have had 0.50" or rainfall so far since midnight and more on the way according to the radar. The WPC 7 day QPF is for 1.5-2" of rainfall for my area. Not exactly what I was hoping for weather wise for the weekend, but we are still in this really wet period and will probably stay wet until October.
On a side note, I was out pumping some water out of my pond yesterday evening trying to get it back in it's banks and noticed something different near the willows on the other side. Seems a 3' gator has moved into the pond due to all the high water allowing them to move freely around the area. I warned the kids to stay away from the pond until the flooding is over. It isn't uncommon to have a gator in my pond, but usually they move on for greener pastures.

whew glad you saw the gator before the kids did gee..long ago a park ranger told me, with ponds and lakes..if there isnt a gator in your lake there right now, there could be one in there tomorrow since they travel from lake to lake at night..waterdipper wrote:Looks like the Taylor, Dixie and Levy coastline has the bullseye again this morning for the rainfall. Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
For all of that rain in the gulf yesterday and all around me, I ended up with a whopping .05" in the bucket. Maybe my luck will be better today, it's been a dry week for me.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
IMPORTANT HEALTH TIP I FOUND ON ORLANDO SENTINEL NEWSPAPER....................The death of a Florida man last week has put shellfish safety — and raw oysters in particular — back in the spotlight.
A 71-year-old Sarasota resident died from a bacterial infection July 10, two days after eating raw oysters at a restaurant. The bacteria, called Vibrio vulnificus, can be contracted by eating tainted raw shellfish or when open wounds are exposed to warm saltwater.
Infections are rare but potentially deadly, especially for people with compromised immune systems.
Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
According to the Florida Department of Health, there have been 16 confirmed cases of Vibrio vulnificus statewide and three deaths so far this year. One of the non-fatal cases was in Lake County, the only one in Central Florida.
Last year, Florida had 11 deaths — including one in Orange County and one in Brevard County — and 49 cases.
Here are a few safety tips from the Health Department:
Do not eat raw oysters or other raw shellfish.
Cook shellfish — oysters, clams and mussels — thoroughly.
Avoid cross-contamination of cooked seafood and other foods with raw seafood and juices from raw seafood.
Eat shellfish promptly after cooking, and refrigerate leftovers.
Avoid exposure of open wounds or broken skin to warm saltwater or brackish water, or to raw shellfish harvested from such waters.
Wear gloves when handling raw shellfish.

Sorry Largo - I was away most of the day. Have a shower in-progress here with a few rumbles of thunder. Seems to be winding down looking at radar along with looking out the window at the sky to the west. I figure I'll get .25 or thereabouts from it.

And nope - no raw seafood for me. I love oysters but they need to be steamed, baked, grilled, whatever. I prefer mine over a saltine cracker with a heavy splash of hot sauce.
