Excerpt:
All of Hawaii’s major islands were under a hurricane warning late Wednesday except for Kauai and Niihau, which were under a hurricane watch. Lane appears to be the first storm to put virutally the entire state of Hawaii under hurricane watches and/or warnings, and it marks only the second time Honolulu and Oahu have been in a hurricane warning. The other time was during Iniki (1992), which ravaged Kauai as a Category 4 storm. Iniki stayed far enough west to spare Honolulu from sustained hurricane-force winds.

26 years ago at this time we were all freaked out with Andrew approaching. Satellite and internet not being what it is now, and nobody on our block had ever been through a major hurricane. My neighbor proudly said, I have 30 cans of soup, we're all set I asked, how much water? She said, huh? I had been saving milk jugs for two months and had 30. Thank goodness we were spared. Not the poor folks in South Miami. Changed the landscape demographically of Broward big time!

TGIF. Weather has been hot, humid here, but the rains have missed me for a week now. Largo, it looks like the next 3 days or so the afternoon pattern is going to really get going with heavy rainfall in localized areas along and west of I- 75. I don't live in a favored area for this pattern, but do expect some good rain from it.
It appears the tropics are going to start ramping up in September for the peak of the season. The forecast I looked at seems to think we are going to get in a favorable MJO the first week of Sept and things are going to ramp up quickly for about 3 weeks with a big pulse in storms. It then appears it will quiet down again with just a sporadic storm here or there until the end of the season. Lets hope all the storms stay out to sea this year.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
Well so much for the easterlies sending late afternoon storms moving from east to west. A T storm has been sitting offshore of Cedar Key all morning. An outflow boundary came out of it heading eastward around noon and it built up once it made land. It has dropped quite a bit of rainfall here in the last hour. The storm is slowly drifting northward but back building as it goes. It should at least drop the temps for awhile. It will be interesting to see if we get another round later this afternoon as forecast or if this zaps the energy from the atmosphere here.

Agreed, WD. Looks more like a transition day. Big blow-up just to my west. I went out of my way to drive thru the torrent on my way home. I needed the truck washed. Just a short little sprinkle at the house.

These studies crack me up. One year X is good then the next year bad. I'll just keep on living and whatever happens, happens!
We'll see what happens with the models in the coming weeks. I personally think they're biased with showing something since it's approaching peak season. NHC dropped their yellow circle from yesterday with no formation through 5 days.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
Morning Largo. I had good rain last Sunday and Tuesday and a light shower on Wednesday. Last couple of days have been dry. The flow has turned more onshore up here with chances for rain in my area late morning/early afternoon before the seabreeze pushes through. Best rain chances are west of the St Johns River basin. I saw there were some hefty storms on the west side of the peninsula yesterday. Glad you got some good rain!
