Fortunately I ended up on the light side of the rainfall in the area with .75", but a couple miles east of me got 3". Very cloudy here this AM and we are already getting some very light rainfall. Wonder how that will ultimately impact the temps and storm formation today. With a lack of heating maybe the storms won't be as strong today.
yes some overcast above here also and a tad cooler it feels like..would be great if the storms were less severe.

Good afternoon. Internet was down basically all day until 4pm. Lot's to catch up with at work tomorrow.

I see the western part of the peninsula is under the gun again today with heavy thunderstorms.

Rain, rain go away. Is it Fall yet? I guess this rainy season is going to keep on keeping on for now. Somehow the heavy rains missed me yesterday and I only got a trace, but a majority of the west coast got heavy rain. Looks like next week could be even wetter than this one has been due to the tropical disturbance in some form passing over. Up here in the Suwannee River Water Management District, they are really concerned about flooding due to the extremely high ground water. They are starting to put out ground water advisories to let people know when the ground water is high and could lead to saturated ground and flooding. Here is what they put out this week:

LIVE OAK, FLA., Aug. 28, 2018 – With aquifer levels reaching record-breaking highs in some areas, the Suwannee River Water Management District (District) has released a new alert system to keep local governments, residents and stakeholders informed on the changing groundwater conditions.

"In some areas of the District we continue to see flooding that began in early July, which is very unusual especially since there have been no tropical systems yet," said Fay Baird, senior hydrologist for the District. “In many places the Floridan Aquifer is more saturated than it has been for numerous years.”

Aquifer Alert, the new alert system, allows users to sign up for automatic notifications through text and/or email whenever new groundwater or hydrological information is posted. The District is currently updating the information twice per week.

Over half of the 88 long-term groundwater gauges across the District are showing groundwater levels above the 90th percentile – the highest on record in many areas. High groundwater levels increase the risk for flooding if a major rainfall event were to occur because the ground is already saturated.

“If a significant weather system occurs over our already-wet conditions, we will very likely see localized flooding in many areas across the District,” said Baird.

Although no major storms have been predicted for the area, residents should take action to get prepared now.

Good morning. We're even getting in on the act. Got a nice storm yesterday afternoon and on/off rain this morning.

How's the tropics looking Largo?

I've been a bit pre-occupied, my Mom (in Ohio) is having some health issues, had her gall bladder removed yesterday. All seems OK for now.

Good afternoon. Busy day at work then have contractors re-screening my enclosure (finally) to put an end to the hail storm "to do" list. Next up: pressure washing and window work.

Had a brief shower here earlier that may not have even wet the ground. Basically an average August here in the rainfall department unlike other areas of the state.

WASHINGTON — Publix Super Markets issued a voluntary recall Thursday of a number of ground beef products sold earlier this summer that may be contaminated with E. coli O26, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Products sold between June 25 - July 31
Products shipped to Publix locations throughout Florida
Consumers should return products or throw them away
The company recalled ground chuck items purchased from their stores between June 25 and July 31, 2018. The company fears some consumers may still have these products in their freezers.

For a list of products included in the recall, click HERE. For a list of counties with Publix locations where the products were shipped, click this link.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service, part of the Department of Agriculture, was first alerted to a number of E. coli 026 illnesses on August 16, according to the agency. Working with the CDC and state agencies, they were able to determine that raw ground chuck beef was the probable source of the illnesses.

Further investigation pointed to the cases predominantly coming from Florida, will illness onset dates from July 5 to July 25.

Most people infected with E. Coli O26 develop diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting, according to the agency.

Consumers are urged not to eat the products. They should be thrown away or returned to the location of purchase.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
324 AM EDT Fri Aug 31 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today - Saturday)...
The surface ridge of high pressure positioned east of the
Carolinas this morning will lift north through the Mid
Atlantic this afternoon through the start of the weekend,
with east to southeast low level flow continuing across the
forecast area. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will
develop across the Florida Peninsula during the early
afternoon, with an enhanced east coast sea breeze directing
the greatest storm coverage towards the west coast and
Interstate 75 corridor through the late afternoon and early
evening hours. Storms will shift into the eastern Gulf and
gradually dissipate overnight. Despite the fact that the
surface ridge lifts north on Saturday, the easterly flow
will not change noticeably, and a very similar weather
pattern will play out, with afternoon and early evening
storms moving east to west.

.LONG TERM (Saturday Night - Thursday)...
Sunday and Monday, stacked ridging off the Mid-Atlantic
coast will keep easterly to southeasterly flow in place
across the forecast area. This will keep the area locked in
the now familiar pattern of scattered to numerous storms
developing across the Florida Peninsula during the early
afternoon, building west towards the west coast through the
late afternoon and early evening. Storms will gradually
dissipate and shift west into the coastal waters overnight.

Global models are in increasing agreement over a weak
tropical wave that is forecast to cross southern Florida
Monday, and pass into the eastern Gulf of Mexico Monday
night and Tuesday. Although this feature is not expected to
cause a significant boost in wind speeds, atmospheric
moisture will increase behind the wave, with precipitable
water values of up to 2.25 inches forecast across the area
on Tuesday. This will lead to more numerous showers and
storms across the area. The main concern with this feature
will be the potential for areal and river flooding issues
if parts of the area see excessive rainfall.

Wednesday and Thursday, moisture will gradually moderate as
easterly winds take hold again, returning the area to the
similar pattern of mainly afternoon and early evening
thunderstorms.

Morning. Here's a loop of the wave coming over the holiday weekend.

Correction to yesterday. The disturbance is the east Atlantic is PTC 6, not TD6 but it's only a matter of time.

Good morning Largo and All.
Busy work week with both contractors and remote employees in town.
Weather for the last several days:
4pm boomers at work; .5" rain at home with lingering sprinkles.
4pm boomers at work; .5" rain at home with lingering sprinkles.
2pm boomers at work; 2" rain at home with lingering sprinkles.
Typical summer weather pattern.
Looks like it's going to continue, throw in some additional tropical moisture, and the wet should continue.
Heading over to the dry side today. @Aug. Wink

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

What a storm here yesterday. We had sustained winds of 35 mph gusting to 45. The rain came down in buckets as well. Funny thing is NWS Ruskin didn't put a statement/warning out on the storm, but NWS Tallahassee did before it crossed over into Dixie County. Obviously NWS Ruskin was far too busy with the Tampa/St. Pete weather to pay attention to what was going on in Levy County. Good job NWS Ruskin. LOL.

Anyway, looks like another day of heavy afternoon T-storms and this pattern is forecast to continue for the next several days. NWS says 60%, but at this point they might as well jump it up to 90%, as the afternoon storms are much more numerous than a 60% chance should lead to. I could use a few days of drying as my pasture is flooding again due to saturation of the soils, but it looks like that will not happen for some bit. Hope the tropical wave for next week stays far enough south it doesn't impact the state too much. Too many flooded areas already we don't need to make it any worse.

Good morning everyone! Safe travels JR! Have fun

Thanks for the Publix info Largo. I guess since the products were sold over a month ago we're all safe. I've pretty much stopped buying ground chuck/beef from Publix. I think they alter the sell by labels. If I really need some ground chuck and don't have time to go elsewhere, I ask the butcher for fresher meat from the back. Be aware too that they often incorrectly weigh packages. I've caught them twice recently grossly over pricing meat items, of course in Publix favor, over charging customers. We primarily do the bulk of our shopping at Walmart Grocery (not super store).

Nice post on the loop of the wave Aug!

If the yellow X blob has to transverse that much (and part) of Cuba it should be torn to shreds??

Already had a brief downpour at the house at lunchtime, but the radar looks much less active from the past few days at this time. Hope that holds on for the rest of the day as I am travelling south to visit family for the Labor Day weekend.

If you have any Publix ground beef in the freezer you better cook it well done!
