I'll be up in Jacksonville with family all week.  The same for Christmas.  That's pretty much where I spend all of the holidays now-a-days.

89 Christmas Freeze --  All of Florida got a nasty surprise --  I was down in Key West.  Cold, rainy, and windy.  It got down into the 40's.  No water activities, no sunsets, and there was no heat in our B&B.  We used candlelight and a blow dryer for heat.

Good afternoon. Too close for comfort John!

I spend Thanksgiving at my elderly 87 year old aunts house. She's my second mother. I'll cherish however many years we have left together. She's quite spunky for her age.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
338 AM EST Tue Nov 6 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today - Wednesday)...
Broad mid and upper level troughing will persist across much
of the central and eastern U.S. through the short term
period as high pressure remains in place across Florida with
warm and muggy conditions continuing. Considerable high
level clouds will continue to stream into the region from
the Gulf today within the southwest to westerly flow aloft
resulting in intervals of clouds and sun, but dry subsident
mid level air moving in from the south around the ridge
should keep rain chances out of the forecast.

Tonight light winds and adequate low level moisture will
likely support some patchy fog development over inland
locations from Hillsborough/Polk counties north into the
Nature Coast after midnight, so will introduce it into the
grids and zones.

On Wednesday a slow increase in low level moisture and less
suppression from the ridge should allow for some isolated to
scattered (Pops 20 to 30 percent) showers and storms to
develop during the afternoon across central and southern
zones where the best moisture return will reside. Temperatures
will continue to run well above normal for this time of the
year with highs today and again on Wednesday climbing into
the mid and upper 80s, with lows tonight in the upper 60s to
lower 70s.

Check out Mike's flying monkey video on Link:  spaghettimodels.com.

Here was my earlier damage report.  Mike was in the storm on facebook live.

"This one did come in fast and hard.  It looks like 2 areas of town got a batch of straight-line winds pushing in off the bay.  2 of our bay-side parks were covered in tree debris with many large branches down.  The damage extended several blocks inland.  2 tall pines were snapped in half.  I didn't notice any dwelling damage, but I'm sure there was at some minor damage somewhere in the area."

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
235 PM EST Tue Nov 6 2018

.DISCUSSION (Tonight - Next Wednesday)...
Broad mid/upper level trough will remain over central and eastern
U.S. through Thursday with weak ridging holding across the Florida
peninsula. At the surface, high pressure will continue to ridge west
across the Florida peninsula with the warm and humid pattern
persisting. There should be enough moisture Wednesday and Thursday
when combined with daytime heating and the sea breezes to pop a few
afternoon showers each day, but no widespread precipitation is
expected. Late in the week into the weekend the trough will deepen
some with the axis shifting across the eastern U.S. and out into the
Atlantic Ocean followed by what looks like at this time a stronger
trough early next week. This will help push a cool front into the
deep south and eventually into the area with models beginning to
come more in line. It looks like the boundary will move south into
south central Florida Saturday and stall waiting for the second
stronger cool front to arrive Monday night and Tuesday. Scattered
showers and a few thunderstorms are expected ahead of the first
front Friday and Saturday and then with the boundary lingering in
the vicinity more isolated to scattered showers will remain possible
for Sunday. Along and ahead of the second front Monday into early
Tuesday more scattered showers and a few thunderstorms should
develop. Some slightly cooler drier air will move into the northern
half of the forecast area over the weekend with a much cooler and
drier push expected with the second front Tuesday into Wednesday.
However, for the remainder of the work week temperatures will remain
well above normal with a few record highs/record warm lows possible.

Haven’t we been here a couple of years Largo?
I think the blogs are run year long, just not much to talk about off season.

I try to come here and contribute when I can, but that’s going to be more limited now due to a new employer.

Yep, this place has been around since 2012. After the WU member blogs closed (Scott's in particular) a few transported over here in March 2017. We've been around awhile. Smile As like most places people come and go in search of greener pastures. This will never be a top weather site but personally I enjoy the smaller groups and "family" feel without just being a number. Back in the early days (2012 - 2015 or thereabouts), we were heavy on the chat feature. It was fun having a few people in chat talking in real time about weather or other subjects.

Wow, amazing how fast that happened. I was on the causeway bridge between Clearwater and Tampa when all that was happening. Weatherman on the radio was telling people to find a ditch and get in it. No ditches on causeway bridges though.

Funny thing that if the timing was different (after 4pm or a weekend), I probably would have been in the same spot as Mike when it came ashore. It is very common for me to be in one of our park shelters when storms are rolling through. Where he was is exactly where you would want to be for this storm, coming in from the SW. Our trail system here connects all of our parks together. I live right off the trail, and am on it every day -- morning and night.

Good afternoon. It rained a little earlier. .34" in the gauge

One more day to grind through then I am on a staycation until the 19th. If anyone wants lemons, let me know. I freely ship on my own dime. I've already picked several dozen and given those away to neighbors. Looking at the tree this afternoon looks like I'll have HUNDREDS to pick this weekend. Fruit is all-in-all quite small this year but I've enough larger ones. Larger being tennis to baseball sized. Smaller being at least golf ball sized.

NWS Tampa (clipped)....LONG TERM (Saturday Night - Thursday)...
Strong surface high pressure will fill into the southeastern
US behind the front and will shift east towards the
Atlantic on Sunday. This will allow winds over Florida to
quickly turn around to easterly, with temperatures starting
to warm up again Sunday and Monday after the slightly
cooler conditions Saturday.

A more amplified upper/mid level trough will cross the
central and eastern US during the first half of the week,
helping to develop a surface trough over the western Gulf of
Mexico on Monday. This surface trough will quickly cross the
Gulf and lift northeast through northern Florida Monday and
Tuesday, dragging a cold front in its wake. Deep moisture
ahead of this front will lead to building rain chances late
Monday through Tuesday evening, with the front expected to
pass southeast through the area Tuesday and Tuesday evening.

A much cooler airmass is forecast to advect in behind this
front Tuesday night through the rest of the week. Highs on
Wednesday and Thursday are currently forecast to only range
from the mid 60s to upper 70s, with Thursday morning lows
bottoming out in the mid 40s to low 50s over the Nature
Coast, and 50s and low 60s from the Tampa Bay area south.

Not myself Largo, I think only if you work for the gov't or banks do you get the holiday off......it isn't a designated national holiday.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
314 AM EST Sat Nov 10 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today-Sunday)...
Some early morning fog, which will be locally dense, will
lift by mid morning with skies becoming mostly cloudy. A
cold front will sink slowly down the Florida peninsula today
with a few sprinkles or light showers possible. The front
will stall over south Florida tonight...with some drier air
advecting over the nature coast and west central Florida on
Sunday. However very warm and rather humid conditions will
persist over southwest Florida. High temperatures on Sunday
are expected to range from the mid 70s north to the mid 80s
south.

.LONG TERM (Sunday Night-Friday)...
A strong U/L disturbance will dig over the southern Plains
on Monday with an area of low pressure developing over the
northwest Gulf of Mexico. This will aid the frontal boundary
south of our region to lift back to the north across the
peninsula as a warm front Sunday night and Monday with
scattered showers and thunderstorms. Warm humid air will
advect back across the forecast area in the wake of the warm
front.

The area of low pressure will lift rapidly to the mid
Atlantic coast Monday night and across New England on
Tuesday. The associated cold front will push across west
central and southwest Florida on Tuesday with showers and a
few thunderstorms likely. Much drier cooler air will advect
across the forecast area Tuesday night and Wednesday...with
highs on Wednesday in the lower 60s across the northern
nature coast...upper 60s across central areas...to the mid
70s over southwest Florida.

Strong area of high pressure will move to the mid Atlantic
coast on Thursday with a large easterly fetch off the
Atlantic extending across the Florida peninsula. This will
rapidly modify the airmass over the forecast area with
temperatures/low level moisture rebounding quickly Thursday
and Friday..with a few light showers also possible each day.
