Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
309 AM EST Wed Nov 21 2018

.DISCUSSION...
Water vapor imagery this morning shows some drier air over the
region compared with the last few days, the result of a frontal
boundary that moved through the region yesterday. At the surface,
the aforementioned boundary is now fairly diffuse over the southern
part of the Florida peninsula, with high pressure building toward
the southeastern U.S. Drier air will actually continue to filter
into the area today, setting up a pleasantly dry day with
comfortable temperatures under mostly sunny skies.

Shortwave energy is still forecast to ride along the northern Gulf
coast region tonight and then overhead for Thursday, likely just
leading to an increase in cloudiness for the local area. Surface
high pressure will shift over the northeast and extend southward
through the end of the week, keeping a northeast to east low-level
wind flow across the region. Friday will be the more moderate of the
two days, with temperatures just a couple of degrees warmer. There
will also be a chance for rain Friday afternoon, mainly for the
interior.

For this weekend, global models continue to show an active southern
stream, with a series of shortwaves and associated surface
reflections moving to our north. This will lead to increasing rain
chances starting Friday night for our northern zones, gradually
spreading southward through Saturday. On Sunday, another upper-level
low and surface cold front will approach the region, but the GFS and
ECMWF show some considerable differences with this next system as we
head into early next week. An active setup for sure, but uncertainty
remains high for this forecast package.

NWS Tampa...UPDATE...
The day started off with some patchy dense fog for a few hours in
some areas, primarily over the fog-prone inland areas. This fog
quickly burned off after sunrise and local observations and visible
satellite imagery are showing clear skies across Florida this
morning. The cool front that pushed through Florida yesterday
extends across southern Florida and has allowed for some cooler
temps and lower humidities to filter into the area this morning.
Reported temperatures and dew points in most areas are around 10
degrees cooler than 24 hours ago, which is feeling very comfortable.
The morning 12Z sounding is showing a drastic drop in PW values down
to 0.85 inches in the wake of yesterdays cool front. High pressure
will build in from the north which will keep rain-free conditions
across the area today. Mostly sunny skies will prevail with seasonal
temps expected. No changes needed to the forecast at this time.

Happy Early Thanksgiving to all. Jax Beach bound here.

Had a little rain yesterday morning. High chances return tomorrow night into Friday night. Hope it doesn't carry into Saturday as I plan to prep my cubicle for my move back to the office next week with my co-worker friends. We'll shop/eat afterwards. I need to pick up some items for the move back and may buy some Christmas gifts.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
245 AM EST Thu Nov 22 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today-Friday)...
Quasi-zonal flow extends across the southern tier of the
U.S. and Florida with a weak U/L disturbance over the Lower
Mississippi Valley. The disturbance will track across the
eastern Gulf today and Florida tonight, with an associated
large area of mid/high cloudiness over the Gulf of Mexico
advecting over the forecast area. Slight chance of a light
shower tonight mainly across the nature coast as the weak
disturbance moves over the region.

.LONG TERM (Friday night-Wednesday)...
Strong surface high pressure will move off the eastern
seaboard Friday night and over the western Atlantic on
Saturday. Another U/L disturbance will rotate across the
Ohio river valley on Saturday with the trough axis extending
over the southeast U.S. with a slight chance of showers
across much of west central and southwest Florida.

A strong U/L disturbance will dig over the central Plains
Sunday and will lift rapidly to the Ohio River Valley
Sunday night. An associated cold front will push across the
Florida peninsula Sunday night and Monday with a chance of
showers. High pressure will build over the Gulf of Mexico
and Florida in the wake of the front with cooler drier air
advecting across the region. The cool dry air will hold over
the forecast area through mid week.

Re: FLORIDA/ALABAMA AND THE HOLIDAY SEASON WEATHER

Post by StAugustineFL on Thu Nov 22, 2018 7:43 am

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving. Quite the local nor'easter beginning to take shape later today into tomorrow. Gale warnings and coastal flood watches in effect along the coast and nearshore waters. Some areas may get several inches of rain.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Jacksonville FL
406 AM EST Thu Nov 22 2018

...STRONG NORTHEAST WIND EVENT TO BRING HIGH SURF, COASTAL
FLOODING, BEACH EROSION, HIGH WINDS AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL TO
NORTHEAST FLORIDA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA COASTAL COUNTIES TONIGHT
AND FRIDAY...

.NEAR TERM /Today through Friday/...

Today...Clouds will continue to increase in the zonal flow aloft
as Strong High Pressure wedges down the SE US coastline and
stationary front remains south of the region across the FL
peninsula. The tightening pressure gradient will increase NE winds
today with NE 15-25G30-35 mph along the coastal areas by the
afternoon and 10-15G20-25 mph over inland areas. Most areas will
remain dry with shower activity only kicking in along the NE FL
coastal areas of St Johns/Flagler counties by mid-late afternoon
hours with low chances of some heavy rainfall/isolated storms as
the bulk of this event will hold off until after sunset. Max
Temps will only reach back into the 60s for most locations with a
few near 70 degree readings across inland NE FL south of I-10.

Tonight/Friday...Strong Northeast Flow event takes shape as a
combination of mid level shortwave aloft will help to lower
pressures off the FL east coast along the old frontal boundary as
High pressure strengthens over the Carolinas and NE winds increase
to 20-30G35-40 mph along the Atlc Coast and have already posted
Wind Advisory for tonight that will continue into Friday. Numerous
to widespread shower activity with embedded isolated storms just
north of the frontal boundary over the Atlc Coastal waters will
continue to push onshore along the NE FL coastline in the St
Johns/Flagler region in the evening hours with locally heavy
rainfall there, these heavy bands will slowly shift northward into
the JAX area and SE GA during the overnight hours and will
continue through the day on Friday. Storm total rainfall amounts
of 1 to 2 inches expected along the coastal areas with locally
heavier amounts possible along the NE FL coast south of JAX. Drier
than normal conditions over the past 60-90 days will preclude the
need for a widespread Flood Watch, but that does not mean local
flood problems will not be possible especially during times of
high tide this evening and again Friday morning. Temps will
generally only fall back into the 50s/lower 60s and remain steady
through the night. Windy conditions and locally heavy rainfall
potential will continue through the day on Friday along the coast,
with scattered showers and breezy winds further inland, with
fading rainfall chances towards sunset. Temps will only rebound
about 5-10 degrees on Friday into the 60s and some near 70 degree
readings over inland NE FL.

NWS Tampa...
UPDATE...
A bit more upper level cloudiness is being observed this morning and
is apparent on the latest visible satellite imagery and is
represented well in the morning 12Z sounding showing that most of
the atmospheric moisture is around 20kft. With that being said, the
12Z morning sounding is also showing a very dry lower atmosphere
with a PW value of only 0.55 inches. This should limit any low cloud
develop today. A mid-level disturbance to the northwest will move
eastward through the day, which will produce mostly cloudy skies
today, but is not expected to cause much in the way of rainfall.
Temperatures will be very similiar to what we saw yesterday with
high temps near 70 along the Nature Coast and mid-upper 70`s
elsewhere. No changes needed to the forecast at this time.

Whew, I'm still in somewhat of a food coma. I'll be useless the rest of the evening. Rain held off as forecast but it was a cloudy, breezy day, with temps in the upper 60's. NWS JAX seems to be backing off on the rain totals tonight through tomorrow. We shall see what happens. Coastal areas will take a lashing through with high surf, strong winds, and flooding at high tide cycles.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
307 AM EST Fri Nov 23 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today-Saturday)...
An U/L disturbance over the central Plains will lift across
the midwest and Great Lakes today through Saturday. Quasi-
zonal flow will develop across the southern tier of the U.S.
At the surface, a weak area of low pressure will develop
over the northwest Gulf of Mexico later today and will track
to the southeast U.S. on Saturday. A stationary boundary
across the Florida Straits will lift north across the
Florida peninsula with a slight chance of showers.

.LONG TERM (Saturday night-Thursday)...
A strong U/L disturbance will dig over the mid Missouri
Valley on Sunday and will lift across the Great Lakes Sunday
night. An associated cold front will push across the Florida
panhandle Sunday night, and will stall across the central
Florida peninsula on Monday as the front becomes parallel to
the U/L flow. Main U/L support will be well north of the
area, with shower activity ahead of the front decreasing in
areal coverage as the front moves over the central Florida
peninsula.

Surface high pressure will build over the northern forecast
area in the wake of the front Tuesday night and Wednesday.
A slight chance of showers will persist mainly across the
central and southern forecast area in the vicinity of the
stalled boundary. The area of high pressure will begin to
retreat toward the mid Atlantic coast on Thursday. Quite a
bit of uncertainty toward the end of the forecast period. A
southern stream U/L disturbance may ride over the frontal
boundary on Thursday and increase isentropic lift over west
central and southwest Florida with an increasing chance of
showers.

rea Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
910 AM EST Fri Nov 23 2018

.UPDATE...
Latest surface observations and visible satellite imagery are
currently showing partly cloudy skies across the region after some
early morning low clouds and fog. Most of the fog has burned off and
clouds have lifted at this time. The morning 12Z sounding is showing
an increase in atmospheric moisture with a PW of 0.93 inches which
will support moderate cloud development this morning and
into the afternoon. We can expect partly to mostly cloudy
skies today with a chance of afternoon showers (20-30 POPs)
with the highest coverage over the inland counties.
Temperatures are already a couple of degrees warmer than 24
hours ago, so we can expect daytime highs to be slightly
warmer as well. Temperatures will top out in the mid to
upper 70`s across the region. No changes needed to the
forecast at this time.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
246 AM EST Sat Nov 24 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today-Sunday)...
A weak area of low pressure will push across north Florida
today with a slight chance of showers. High pressure will
build over the southeast U.S. and Florida tonight and Sunday
with skies becoming partly cloudy with continued mild
conditions.

A strong U/L disturbance will dig over the central Plains
Saturday night and the mid Missouri Valley on Sunday. An
associated cold front will push across the Lower Mississippi
Valley Sunday.

.LONG TERM (Sunday night-Friday)...
The area of low pressure will track to the Great Lakes
Sunday night with the cold front moving across the Florida
panhandle. The cold front will begin to become parallel to
the U/L flow on Monday and will push slowly south down the
peninsula with scattered to numerous showers. The cold
front will stall across south Florida Monday night.

High pressure will build over the forecast area in the wake
of the front with much drier cooler air advecting over the
region...with high temperatures Tuesday in the mid to upper
60s north and central...to the mid 70s south. Overnight lows
Tuesday night will range from the upper 30s
north...mid/upper 40s central...to the mid/upper 50s south.

Cool dry airmass will hold over the region Thursday but will
begin to modify as the surface high moves to the mid
Atlantic coast and winds veer to the northeast/east off the
Atlantic. Surface high will move over the western Atlantic
on Friday with winds veering east to southeast...which will
allow low level moisture and temperatures to recover...with
highs climbing to the mid 70s north and lower 80s south on
Friday.

Morning. Had a few showers the past couple of days totaling .59". Quite a bit warmer today with highs in the upper 70's but still very pleasant.

I was going to put up some outdoors decorations this weekend but remembered my house is getting pressure washed on Monday so that'll have to wait a week. I will work on the tree tomorrow.

Hope the next front makes it all the way down state. It's forecast to be quite cool here come mid-week.
