well I guess with me being closer to the gulf, i'll be getting come of this.................................................FL Gulf Coast...southwestern GA...
A narrow band of mostly showers, with thunderstorms near the
immediate coast and sporadic/embedded cyclonic-shear areas and small
bow/LEWP features well inland, continues to move eastward into the
eastern Panhandle and southwestern GA. A brief tornado or damaging
gust cannot be ruled out the next couple hours. See SPC mesoscale
discussion 8 for details on the near-term scenario.

Thanks for the updates, Largo. It looks like it will be getting to us by afternoon. Hopefully, I'll get home first. I'm hoping for at least half an inch.

I heard about that I-75 crash. Very sad.

This frontal rain/squall line is packing a bigger punch than I anticipated. Rain has been heavy off and on and the wind has been over 25 sustained with gusts over 30 so far. The main squal line is now past with just rain for the next few hours. Should easily make it to an inch if not more.

Thanks, WD. Not quite the punch down this way. I just made it home as the sprinkles started. It looks like I'm getting that half inch I asked for, maybe an inch when it's all said and done.

This coming week looks great.

Good day. The main punch has passed through here. Distant gauge check looks around 1/3 of an inch. Light rain should continue for an hour or two. .5" total looks about right.

JR..SAN.........this was on baynews 9's page....did you know this?..how do we find this? i dont use Facebook...........................NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — New Port Richey is among 100 cities nationwide to test Facebook’s latest feature, "Local Alerts."

Local Alerts could include road closures, weather activity
It's meant for use by local government and first-responder FB pages
Clearwater, Largo and Oldsmar are also test cities
"There's so much going on in our town right now, and I felt this was a great opportunity for us to step out and be in the forefront and be a leader for this, just to showcase the city," said City Clerk Judy Meyers.

Meyers led the way in getting the city into Facebook's test group.

According to Facebook communications team member Mari Melguizo, Local Alerts is meant for use by administrators of local government and first-responder pages. If a post is labeled with a Local Alert indicator, followers in the immediate area will get a notification about the post.

The post will also go to the top of all followers' news feeds.

"It could be road closures, emergency alerts, weather activities," Meyers said of potential uses.

Melguizo said the new feature is not meant to replace existing emergency alert systems, but to provide more details about a situation to those closest to it.

"It's going to be a great tool to get that information out quickly, should we need to," said Meyers.

Meyers said New Port Richey hasn’t had the chance to post a Local Alert yet.

Melguizo said other cities that are part of the Tampa Bay test group are Clearwater, Largo and Oldsmar.

No details were available about when the feature could go live nationwide.

Morning.

I use Facebook but not sure if those without an account can view anything. I've not looked yet to see if those sites are something I need to follow/like/add or if it just pops up on someone's page if they live local to the area.

.49 final gauge total. Grocery shopping done. In a bit I'll take down the indoor/outdoor Christmas decorations but may try something different this year and leave the tree up. It gives me a peaceful feeling seeing it lit every night. Why not keep that feeling going?

I might check out the Facebook thing, but I'm disliking it more every day. Google and Facebook have sold everything they know about you -- and it won't stop no matter what you're told to believe.

Almost an inch here -- sun's popping out and it feels good against the 60's temps and breeze. Pool got above 70 over the last 2 weeks, so it's bearable to rinse off in (also against the 60 temps).

Outdoor work today, and a good day for it. Truck and bike are both in the shop today.

Good call, Largo.

Only reached 67, just broke into the 50's.

Nice weather week for some visiting folks from around the U.S. Gonna be a busy work week or 2. Big project milestone is just around the corner.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
247 AM EST Sun Jan 6 2019

.DISCUSSION...
A cool start to the second half of the weekend today as much of the
area will wake up to temps in the 40s...lower 50s near the coast. A
beautiful day is expected as high pressure settles over the area.
Mainly clear skies expected with seasonal temperatures in the low to
mid 70s. On Monday, surface high pressure moves into the W Atlantic
with easterly low level flow becoming established allowing for a
moderating trend in the temps and dew points through mid-week.

Upper-level trough to deepen down the Eastern Seaboard pushing a dry
front through the region Wednesday. Long trajectory upper NW flow to
bring cold Canadian high pressure into the region to drop temps back
below normal with Thursday being the coolest day with highs in the
upper 50s to mid 60s across the region. Temps once again begin to
quickly moderate as low-level flow again becomes easterly as high
pressure moves into the western Atlantic but should remain near
seasonal norms. Potential for rain chances return next weekend as
the next storm system moves towards the area from the west.

Morning. A cool, crisp 41 degrees under clear skies and calm winds. Forecast to hit 67'ish later. Up to the 70's for a couple of days then back to 50's and 60's later in the week. Looks like there's potential for 2 systems in the 7-11 day period. The first being next weekend followed by another a few days later. Hope some reaches SEFL. They're in moderate drought conditions.

Kick some butt on the milestone JR! I've no doubt you'll do your part. Had my 2018 year end review with the bossman on Friday. It went very well. Annual compensation increase discussions come in a few weeks as those are effective February with my company. I know I'll get something. Question is how much. I'm also working on a promotion which, if I get it, qualifies me for some additional perks. That's still roughly 3 months out. Fingers crossed.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
211 AM EST Mon Jan 7 2019

.Discussion....
Weather wise it is looking like a quiet work week. High pressure
will dominate the forecast Monday and Tuesday leading to a small
warm up across the area with most of us in the low to mid 70`s.

By Wednesday an upper level trough will deepen bringing with it a
cold front. This cold front will be a dry one but it will bring a
temporary cool down. Highs on Thursday will barely get into the 60`s
in the Tampa Bay area with lows in the upper 30`s north of I-4.

Temperatures will already start to moderate by Friday as the next
upper level trough sits in the western Gulf switching our low level
winds to the east. As we get into the weekend rain showers chances
will start to come back into the forecast as a low pressure in the
Gulf of Mexico move towards the area. Long range models are in
pretty good agreement that the majority of the moisture will stay to
the north of the area with mainly 30 to 40 PoPs for west central
Florida.

Up to the mid 70's. Popped about 10 degrees in just over an hour. New A/C is getting installed today.

Not showing much on POPs for the next 2 systems down this way. Both are looking to put the high temps back into the 60's though.

Good luck on the job, Aug. Hope you get the promo!!
I'm sure I'll get the standard 1%-3% this year. I don't look for more than that, since the last couple of years my "role" is actually less-skilled than my "position" would indicate, and I make more than my boss does. Wink This big project that I'm on better show-cases my true skills and experience. I'm looking for a larger bonus this time around -- last year was 21%. Smile

Post by LargoFL on Mon Jan 07, 2019 3:23 pm

NWS MIAMI discussion (clipped),,,,,1/7/2019,,,,,,DISCUSSION...
A fairly quiet week is in store for South Florida weather wise.
High pressure in firm control across the Sunshine State will keep
skies mostly sunny to partly cloudy for the next few days.
GOES-15 water vapor imagery beautifully displays a ribbon of dry
air a pinch to the south of the Florida Keys further aiding in
widespread sunshine. The 00Z MFL sounding shows this dryness with
a PWAT value of 0.63 inches across the region. Temperatures will
begin to warm today and tomorrow before cooling off again by
Wednesday. For today, highs are forecast to reach the low 80s
across the Gulf Coast and the upper 70s elsewhere.

By Tuesday evening, GFS and ECMWF are showing a strong 500 mb
trough and an associated surface low sliding across the Great
Lakes and into New England on Wednesday. Both models show a cold
front pushing towards the south and across the peninsula Tuesday
night into Wednesday morning. A dry passage is expected with this
front with only a wind shift from the NW along with an air mass
change. Much drier air will usher into the region with dew points
dipping into the mid to upper 30s across the Lake Region/Gulf
Coast with mid to upper 40s across the east coast by Thursday
morning. Apparent low temps look to be in the low 40s to the west
of Lake Okeechobee. Will monitor temps in this region because if
winds decouple, frost will be possible.

For Friday, high pressure returns, shifting winds from the east
and increasing low level moisture in the process. Forecast
derived PWAT values increase again as well. A few showers are
possible Thursday night into Friday as the aforementioned moisture
returns across the region.

By the weekend, long range models are indicating a trough
traversing across the SW CONUS with a surface low shooting off the
TX coast late Saturday. A secondary surface low off the coast of
FL and in the Atlantic will be present during this time frame as
well. These two systems will work together to increase
instability across the region and an increase in POPs for the
weekend. At this time, activity looks to remain just rain showers
with no convective activity forecast.

Damn, 21% is nice! Bonus-eligibility is the main perk should I have some good fortune with the promo. 4 years ago they discontinued them for my pay level all the way down to the entry level positions throughout the company.

First system coming through here over the weekend looks like it may be a decent snow producer up north. Maybe over 12". Not an epic nor'easter by any stretch but does have the look of a nice Miller B storm.

Feels great outside 51 on the temp outside this am. Looking
forward to the cool down Thursday. Maybe mid 30's Thursday night.
I had .60 in the bucket last Friday to start the new year.
Have a great day

Good afternoon. Perfect January day here today. Too bad there was no opportunity to enjoy it.

Seems the trend is towards a weaker weekend system. Maybe it'll over-achieve when said and done.

Any college football fans? Wow at Clemson's throttling of Alabama. I felt in my gut Clemson would win but not like that!

NWS TAMPA....Prev Discussion... /issued 305 PM EST Tue Jan 8 2019/

DISCUSSION (Tonight - Next Tuesday)...
We`ll continue to see some clouds ahead of the cold front tonight
into Wednesday with patchy fog also possible late tonight into
early Wednesday morning. However, overall moisture will remain
limited so no precipitation is expected with the boundary. Much
cooler drier air will move into the region Wednesday afternoon
through Thursday night as surface high pressure builds in from the
north. Temperatures will warm into the mid 60s to mid 70s
Wednesday with highs occurring around midday as the cold air
advection gets underway. Low temperatures Wednesday night will dip
into the mid 30s Nature Coast to mid 40s near the coast from
around Tampa Bay southward. The colder drier air will be firmly
entrenched on Thursday as the northerly flow continues under
mainly clear skies. Temperatures will only reach the upper 50s
north to mid 60s south on Thursday with lows Thursday night once
again dropping into the mid 30s Nature Coast with frost possible
to mid 40s near the coast from around Tampa Bay southward. By
Friday the surface high will have moved into the eastern U.S. with
the low level flow veering to northeast to east beginning the
moderating trend under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.

Over the weekend the next mid/upper level trough and associated low
pressure system will move across the central and eastern U.S. with
southeast to south winds bringing an increase in moisture. The cold
front associated with this system will approach the area Saturday
night and move across the region Sunday. The overall best dynamics
and lift will remain well to our north so not looking for anything
more than some clouds and a few showers ahead of and along the
boundary. Behind the front high pressure will build in from the
northwest early next week bringing another cool down.

Billsfan..cool weather is coming hope you feel better....................................
This hazardous weather outlook is for South Florida.

.DAY ONE...TONIGHT

Visibility: Reduced visibilities are possible in fog late tonight
across Glades, Hendry, and interior Collier county. Local
visibilities may drop to a mile or less at times, especially towards
daybreak.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

Stronger northwest winds behind a weak cold front will lead to a
period of higher winds and seas Wednesday night and Thursday. Winds
of 15 to 20 knots are expected, with seas increasing to around 6 feet
in the Atlantic waters, with local seas 7 feet or higher possible.

An increasing Atlantic rip current risk is expected late week as
winds become more easterly.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the low 50 degrees or below
across all of South Florida Wednesday and Thursday night. The coldest
wind chill values may fall into the mid to upper 30s across most of
interior South Florida late Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and
mid to upper 40s across the remainder of the region. Wind chills late
Thursday night and Friday morning will be warmer, but are still
expected to drop into the upper 30s and low 40s across much of the
interior and Gulf coast.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation will not be needed tonight.
