Good morning all. Looks like up and down temps for the next week or so, with no real cold temps in site. We might get some patchy frost the next 2 nights, but that is normal up here. Largo, we have had some frost and a couple of night of light freezes so far this winter up here, but my plants can tolerate that. It isn't until we have a hard freeze with temps below 25 that I worry about covering them, and I don't see a hard freeze showing up anywhere in the models for the next two weeks. I hope we eventually get a shot or two of really cold nights, but they have been few and far between the last several winters.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
321 AM EST Thu Jan 10 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today - Friday)...
An amplified pattern continues over the U.S. with a closed upper low
over the Canadian Maritimes and associated troughing extending south
off the eastern seaboard. Farther to the west, upper ridging extends
from Mexico northward through the central U.S. These features move
east through the end of the week with the ridge extending from the
Gulf of Mexico northward through the Ohio River Valley on Friday. On
the surface, a frontal boundary has moved south of Florida and
extends westward over Cuba and into the southern Gulf of Mexico.
High pressure builds in from the north behind this front which will
help usher in some cooler and drier air. Temperatures on Thursday
will be around 10 degrees below average with the lowest
temps just above freezing expected over the inland portion
of Levy County for Thursday night. A warm up is expected on
Friday as the high pressure moves eastward causing a shift
in the winds to the east-northeast.

Morning Largo,
I have covered my plant twice this season right before Christmas.
I didn't cover them last night with the wind staying up. I will however cover them tonight with the wind going calm. I was down to 43 when I left this morning.
I have poinsettia's that I grow and a shrimp plant that can not take the cold weather or frost.

Good evening. Not much weather-wise to report. Cold evening on tap but more towards the interior. Nice warm-up for a couple of days beginning tomorrow.

My bro in Missouri has 5-7" of snow in the forecast. Most falls tomorrow night when temps are near perfect for a good snow. Lows in the upper 20's.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
316 AM EST Fri Jan 11 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today-Saturday)...
After a cold start this morning with some patchy frost in
place mainly across the Nature Coast, temperatures will warm
into the mid 60s north to lower 70s south this afternoon
with mostly clear skies. Winds will be turning more to the
east today as the high pressure center well to the north of
the state shifts east along the eastern sea board, and this
will allow temperatures and moisture to moderate. Lows
tonight will be in the upper 40s north to the mid 50s south
and coastal. Winds then become more SE Saturday as a weak
cold front approaches from the west, and highs will be
generally in the 70s.

.LONG TERM (Saturday night-Thursday)...
A deamplifying short wave trough and attendant weak surface
low moving across the TN/OH valleys late Saturday night
will help to drag a weakening cold front into the northern
forecast area early on Sunday and then through the remainder
of the region Sunday afternoon and night as this system
moves offshore the mid Atlantic coast and into the Atlantic
through Monday. Lack of moisture accompanying this front
should support a mainly dry frontal passage but a few
showers will be possible mainly across the Nature Coast
counties Saturday night into early Sunday, otherwise dry
weather with a wind shift into the northwest and north can
be expected as the front moves south through the region. In
the wake of the front high pressure will support cool dry
weather. On Tuesday another weak short wave trough will move
southeast off the southeast U.S. coast with no impact on
our weather. During Tuesday night into Wednesday short- wave
ridging aloft and surface high pressure will maintain
pleasant cool dry weather across the entire forecast area
through Thursday. Above normal temperatures at the start of
the period will cool to below normal Monday through
Wednesday in the wake of the front with temperatures
gradually returning to near normal on Thursday. Daytime
highs in the mid to upper 70s on Sunday will cool into the
60s Monday through Thursday, while overnight lows in the 50s
Saturday and Sunday nights fall into the 40s Monday night
through Thursday.

Wow, JohnZ.  You said that you were in the shrimping business, but I didn't realize that meant horticulture.  Wink  Those shrimp plants certainly do not like the cold.

An extreme work week is now coming to a close, culminated with me totaling my truck.  All ok, but I had another vehicle "clearly encroach upon my right-of-way".  In other words, they blindly cut across in front of me and got t-boned.  Final mileage total 206k miles.  Thinking that next truck will be a 2016-2018 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6.  Looks like I'll be up San's way tomorrow hitting all of the dealerships between Clearwater and NPR.

Glad you are ok JR. No doubt an unsettling moment and one I hope to never experience. Drivers need eyes in the back of their heads these days. I'd be extremely PO'd if I were you should the other driver got distracted by talking on their phone, texting, etc. I'm sure you've bittersweet moments putting the F150 to rest but best of luck on the new vehicle. Hope it has 200K in it as well!

Bro's snow forecast got upped to 7-14" He has tickets to the Chiefs/Colts game in KC tomorrow. Got a hotel reservation, made the trip today ahead of the storm for the most part, and has landed safely to his destination 12 miles from the stadium. Might be an interesting short trip tomorrow as the snow is forecast to continue to mid-afternoon. Go Chiefs!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
403 AM EST Sat Jan 12 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today-Sunday)...
High pressure ridging across the area from the north will
shift east today as a cold front approaches from the west.
Winds will increase through the afternoon and become more
E/SE. A few showers will be possible late in the
afternoon/evening, mainly inland and south. The cold front
moves through Sunday, with showers possible mainly across
the north through the day. Highs today will be in the mid to
upper 70s. Lows tonight in the mid 50s to lower 60s. And
highs Sunday in the mid 70s to lower 80s.

.LONG TERM (Sunday Night-Friday)...
Models are in good agreement with synoptic scale features
during the long term period so a blend will be used. A weak
cold front will be exiting to the south of the region Sunday
night. In the wake of the front high pressure will support
dry and noticeably cooler weather through the week. A weak
short wave trough will move off the southeast U.S. coast
during Tuesday with another trailing short wave trough
moving across the state Wednesday afternoon and night. A dry
and stable air mass over the region will preclude any rain
chances with the passage of these features with high
pressure maintaining pleasant dry weather through Friday.
Temperatures will run below normal through Thursday with
overnight lows in the 40s area-wide, with daytime highs in
the 60s. Temperatures will modify back to near normal on
Friday with lows in the 50s and highs climbing back into the
lower 70s.

Morning. Spent yesterday in St Aug with some friends. Had a good time. The weather was perfect with temps around 70. Missed the Chiefs game but had other friends sending regular text updates. They put a pretty good thrashing on the Colts.

Hope that system for next weekend Largo posted above brings some rain. Looks like it may be a pretty cool/cold end to the month for the east (including FL). WD mentioned that some time ago.

I could be wrong, but if the Front slamming down here from the northland verifies..and the low temps verify..might we have some bad winds with it??,,its bad winds that most concerns me personally..low temps I can cover things up, bad winds take trees or their branches down and do damage so i watch for bad winds always..
