Apollo 15 Cruisin On The Moon

My visit to the Apollo landing sites with my telescope continues. Today we look at the Apollo 15 landing site.
Apollo 15 took off from from Cape Canaveral's launch complex 39 on July 26,1971 . The mission was to Explore the Hadley-Apennine region.  Apollo 15 became the first "J-mission".
NASA used Letters to describe different mission types and spacecraft configurations. The Apollo 15  J-Mission was about using an extended Lunar Module that was capable of carrying a larger payload and provide a longer duration on the Lunar Surface. Apollo 15's added payload included the LRV(Lunar Roving Vehicle),LCRU(Lunar Communications Relay Unit)and the GCTA(Ground Controlled Television Assembly) On  July 30 at 6:16 EDT The Falcon Made a perfect landing at Hadley Rille after the steepest approach to clear the Apennine Range with some of the highest peaks on the Moon. Scott and Irwin spent over 18 hours on the lunar surface and covered over seventeen miles with the NASA"s Lunar Rover electric car (LRV). They also took core samples and set up the GCTA . On August 2 the crew fired the rockets on the LEM and thanks to the GCTA we got to see the lift off from the Moon.

..What would we be curious about? It was the first use of the LRV

That would be 8mph..but on a later mission it achieved 11mph.
