Re: CLOSED FLORIDA/ALABAMA/TROPICAL BLOG
1. A tropical wave and associated low pressure area located just
offshore of the coast of western Africa is producing a large area of
showers and thunderstorms. This system has become better organized
since yesterday, and a tropical depression could form in a few days
over the eastern Atlantic. The low is forecast to move westward at
15 to 20 mph over the tropical Atlantic during the next several
days. Regardless of development, heavy rain is possible in
portions of the Cabo Verde Islands through Wednesday.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.

It's just awful what's going on there. Not sure if it is true or a photo shopped picture, but I saw dozens and dozens of City busses just sitting there, probably under water and ruined. I hope that is not the case, the busses should have been relocated to higher ground I would hope!
It's awful telling people not to go into their attics, go on their roofs with so many tornados being spawned. So sad

yes its horrible alright..one news report about 30,000 people in shelters geez....saw one pic of a Tractor trailer floating down a street..can you imagine? gee..damage way well be in the many billions whew. and...its FAR from being over!...if that happened here in florida..they just might as well make the whole state a national park..wouldn't be much left.BillsfaninSoFla wrote:LargoFL wrote:FEMA may be In Texas for years dealing with Harvey's aftermath and destruction..its an Historic event the will take a long time to recover from...

Thanks for the new page Largo.
Looks like a wet evening for many along the WCFL coast. Hope it falls over the areas that need it and not over those who had 6-12" over the weekend.
Relatively overcast here all day with a slight drizzle several hours ago. Temps were only in the low to mid 80's which is pleasant for late August.

Saw on the news before Harvey made landfall the mayor of one coast town say he was not going to order mandatory evacuation because he didn't want to have to drag people out of their homes. Unfortunately that is what they are having to do now, except with boats and helicopters

Finally getting some rains from PTC 10/92L/trough. Over an inch and climbing.
Those rains south of the bay are not really needed at this time, I don't think.
And that was the Corpus Christi mayor the refused to order mandatory evac's. They did not get the rain/flooding that Houston got, or the winds/surge that came in to their north.

Good deal. Your area has missed out lately. Maybe you get to 2"+ Good totals without any local concerns.
Jax says the trough axis extending across the Bay region lifts north tomorrow as PTC 10 lifts out. Fingers crossed for a good rain event. While not in dire straights here for rain by any means it has been somewhat of a dud rainy season in these parts. I haven't had a day with 1" all month which is somewhat unusual for August.

Afternoon all!
Thanks for the new blog Largo - I'll go shut the other one down.
The Houston Mayor is going to get trashed big time. He refused to do any evacs, knowing the forecast for rainfall was going to be catastrophic. He's an idiot!!
Glad you got some rain JR, I was sitting on the railroad tracks this afternoon and have 1.73" in the gauge right now.
Ruskin shows the long term getting back into the normal pattern after PTC 10/trough lifts out. And might I add that I HATE that new designation! You want to call it that fine, but don't put "TEN" on the NHC TWO. That is very deceiving!!

Good luck there, Aug. Mets here are saying the same.
1.6 here. A few sprinkles might linger.
You see any cool front making it down by week's end? I know I'm fishin' but am putting on a bbq at the parents' place (Jax) on Saturday. it sure would be nice.

Looks like typical late summer weather JR. 90'ish give or take a couple degrees for highs, mid 70's for lows, chance of rain.

Thanks, Aug. As expected.
I do like your morning lows though. They're a bit better for a morning walk. 79-80 is about the norm here.
