Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
The oak tree looks like it's almost done shedding, I think. He bagged up 15 55 gallon bags this season.
The mandevillas are in full bloom.. They love hot and kinda dry, so they've been in heaven.

My orange tree is showing good buds, but it also has black soot on the leaves and the bark on the trunk is falling off. Not sure how this will end
Ouch, StPete.
Black soot: "The fungus grows on honeydew, the sticky waste of sap-sucking insects such as aphids and whiteflies. Fungal spores settle on the honeydew, then germinate. On leaves, the sooty fungal growth can be heavy enough to interfere with photosynthesis. Ridding your tree of the insects will eliminate the fungus."
Bark: "Phytophthora rot root is a soil-borne disease that causes the bark to peel at the soil level. The trunk may become girdled, with visible wound tissue. Over time, the tree may show symptoms of decline such as leaf chlorosis, leaf and fruit drop, branch dieback and ultimately, death."
Sorry, buddy. Been there, done that.

I wonder if this will shake the tree enough to pull someone out of the woodworks.

The potentially bad news would surely draw him out JR. I'm not sure what to think at this point.
Hope StPete can resolve the orange tree issues and bills gets the cooler temps.
Perfect day here today weather wise. Full sun, 75, and a bit of a breeze. Wish I could have spent more than a few minutes outdoors (work)

Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
Fire outlook for today.
...Portions of Florida...
Northerly low-level flow will allow a dry post-frontal air mass to
infiltrate much of Florida, with minimum RH values less than 35% -- perhaps locally less than 25% -- expected during peak afternoon heating. The dry air mass, combined with sustained surface winds of around 10-15 mph (locally up to 20 mph), is expected to foster elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon in areas where fuels are dry/receptive.

Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
A CoC day today, deluxe. Park, beach, pool, alcohol, trail.
Looks like the next front is just gonna beat me to Ft Myers for Spring Training. Heading down Thursday.
No 80's in the forecast this week, Tampa or Ft Myers. Hopefully some of these fronts will bring in some March rains, before the April/May transition to summer. (it was a red-flag day here)

Looks like 2 chances or rain in the 7 day period. Tuesday night then next weekend.

Chilly start to the day. Nearby PWS is reporting 37. Not quite sure if it's really that cold but other stations are also in the 30's. Majority in the 40's aside from some 50's near the St Johns River or Atlantic Ocean.
Edit: Must be that cold. Took out the pooch again in the daylight. Patchy frost on the rooftops along with steam rising up off the warmer waters of the retention pond out back.

Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
Morning everyone...
Have a great time at spring training JR!
I saw an interesting post on FB from NWS Ruskin about the 10 degree difference between Tampa Int'l Airport and the Clearwater airport. I had varying PWS reports around me. My "doojob" said 50 here, but I have it in a very protected area to reduce any "inflated" high temp readings.
The ones closest to me were reading 47, so I'll go with that.

Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
What a beautiful weekend. Temps were quite chilly during the AM, but warmed up nicely during the day. Actually had patchy frost yesterday with a low of 34, and more widespread frost today with a low of 32. Quite a bit colder than the forecast of upper thirties. Looks like the next cold front might be even colder and I don't think we are at the last Hurrah for March just yet. JB mentions the possibility of a mega east coast storm coming out of the Gulf towards the end of March as a possibility with this pattern. He even hints at 1993 as an analog, but didn't go as far as forecasting a 93 Storm of the Century.

Wow, you guys sure did get a bit chilly up your way. It was 60 when I left for work this morning. Perfect IMO!
Yes, still no Largo
That's something WD. I was just talking about the 1993 storm the other day. That was an amazing storm that covered such a huge area.

Re: CLOSED Last Hurrah for March?
I didn't realize SPC had put the coast in "marginal"
SPC AC 061931
Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0131 PM CST Tue Mar 06 2018
Valid 062000Z - 071200Z
...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PARTS OF THE
WEST COAST OF FLORIDA...
...SUMMARY...
Thunderstorms forming along and ahead of a cold front will pose a
marginal severe-weather risk over west-central Florida overnight.
...FL...
Current radar trends indicate the strongest storms remain well
offshore the FL Panhandle, with a broad area of rain inland
along/ahead of the front. As such, have removed the Marginal Risk
from the FL Panhandle. Other storms may strengthen this evening and
overnight over the water, and affect the west coast of FL with
primarily a localized damaging wind threat.
..Jewell.. 03/06/2018
.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1011 AM CST Tue Mar 06 2018/
...Discussion...
A cold front from the southern Appalachians southwest into the
north-central Gulf of Mexico is expected to progress eastward during
the period, as an occluded upper low over Iowa rotates across the
Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. The front is expected to extend from
the Carolina Piedmont into the northeast Gulf by this evening,
reaching the central Florida peninsula by the end of the period.
Along and ahead of the front, thunderstorm potential will persist as
air mass modification continues over the Loop Current and low-level
moisture gradually increases northeastward within the pre-frontal
environment. Modest instability with MLCAPE around 500-750 J/kg
will remain primarily over the Gulf waters with more marginal
instability spreading into coastal sections of northwest Florida
this afternoon and west-central Florida tonight.
A pre-frontal convective line currently over southeast Alabama and
far northwest Florida is expected to progress eastward this
afternoon. VAD wind profiles in advance of the line indicate strong
low-level and deep layer shear favorable to enhance storm
organization, with some potential for brief rotation to develop
within stronger embedded cells. Model guidance including CAM/HREF
explicit storm attribute forecasts maintain a few weakly rotating
updrafts mainly over the Gulf, although several UH tracks affect
the immediate coastal regions of northwest Florida this afternoon.
As storms along/ahead of the advancing cold front move into the
eastern Gulf tonight and approach the west-central Florida coast,
several stronger cells may affect the immediate coastal sections.
Isolated strong wind gusts and possibly a brief tornado will be
possible with stronger cells over the Marginal Risk area.

Only 1 cap Poof here. .25 in the bucket. Just take this cooler air down to Ft Myers, and I'm good. Long road trip tomorrow. To Orlando, then to Ft Myers. Back on Tuesday. Planning to stop by a new brewery in Largo on the way home. If time permits, I can spend some time in the area, to see the sights.
