The Nascar boys have returned from a weekend off to race at
the legendary Indianapolis Speedway for the Brickyard 400!

Remember, coverage this week switches to ESPN/ABC. Unless I’ve missed something, there doesn’t
appear to be too much coverage on TV of pre-race activities. Looking at recent attendance at the track,
doesn’t appear too many show up in person either. Look at the attendance figures decrease

SMOKE. He’s good at
this track; he’s close to home. He has a
history of getting better the later the season goes, and he needs to get Ryan
Newman sponsorship in order to keep him.
No better way to do that than stuff some wins under the belt.
DON’T PICKUM
MARTIN TRUEX, JR.
Martin’s not well known for flat track finishes and it might be that MWR
won’t finish the season quite as strong as they started out.

My dark horse pick this week is Paul Menard. RCR’s stable is not having a great season,
and it’s time for one of them to pick up the speed. I think Menard might pull off a top five
finish.

Yep, you guessed it, who else, BUT…. (trumpet roll please)……
Unless you’re not a Nascar fan, or have been living under a
rock the past couple of days, you, along with millions others, have heard the
news that AJ has failed both his Part A and Part B (sounds like a tax return)
drug tests. (Each specimen comes from
the same sample.) AJ has now been
suspended indefinitely from Nascar.

AJ had two
choices to make. One was to enroll in
Nascar’s Road to Recovery Program, which he did today; immediately after the B
test results were announced. Another
choice was to sue Nascar, and we all know where that pretty much gets
you….
It will be up to the administrators of the Road to Recovery
Program to determine what program AJ will have to complete; how long it will
take, etc. He will have to undergo
ongoing drug testing and counseling.
Once the administrators are satisfied, he will be cleared to race again
in the Cup series….. IF, and this is a
big if in my book, he can get a ride.
Penske hasn’t announced anything firm yet except for the fact that Sam
Hornish Jr. is in the 22 car for the next two races. (Indy and Pocono).
As we all know, Nascar has changed, and the big sponsors
drive the show now with MEGA buck sponsorships.
Gone are the days when sponsors were just happy to be able to get their
names
on the side of old what’s his name car to get some exposure. Now, they
are buying a product. They are, in a sense, if you will – buying an
owner and a driver, and his appearances, and their names all over the pretty
car with big fat pretty lettering. All
for Multi Millions of Dollars.
Shell/Penzoil is one of the largest in the sport. Penske has a hefty relationship with them,
and won’t risk it. With AJ half way into
a one year contract, it’s my belief Shell/Penzoil will view him as damaged
goods and will want to disassociate their name from his. Enter stage right – Sam Hornish with an
untarnished record and a proven, tested background with Shell. Shell likes him. I think we’ll see Sam finish the year out in
the Cup series for Penske. I think his
performance for the rest of the year dictates what Roger will do about the 22
next year, but I don’t think AJ will return to the 22.

I have to agree with you on Picking Stewart for this week. He loves Indy. Does better in the summer months, and likes the fast slick tracks. Over the past 13 races that he run, he has a 46.5 % success rate at this track.
I will have to add my Pickum...

None other than Jeff Gordon. OK no shock to ya'll but look at the facts.
He is only one of a few drivers to make every Brickyard 400 race. 10 of his races were top 5 or better.
Now I know he's been in a slump lately, and championship may be out of the question. But he's making a comeback. Time for him to lay it all on the line. He doesn't have many years of racing left in him. Better make the most of them while he can.

Sea gave me a new project this morning. We are waiting for the announcement that Matt will be joining the JGR team with Home Depot as his sponsor. Figured that we would take a look and see what he would look like in the uniform with the car. Personally I don't think Matt is what Home Depot is looking for. But ya never know. Give us your thoughts....

We have a new contest starting this week....there are seven races till the end of Segment 2 in Nascar Fantasy League........
Our boy, Tropic, is so far down the toilet, he will have a hard time getting above 0 by the end of the segment....
Whoever guesses his total point score at the end of Segment 2, get to choose his next avy!!! Good luck, and may the best woman win!!!!!
