Re: CLOSED 9-17-17 FLORIDA/ALABAMA BLOG
Morning. The line of storms to my west per Largo's radar grab a few posts back fizzled out while a new line developed just to my east. I got clipped by the western edge and received a quick .10". Latest HRRR model for today shows pretty good rains along/near a line from Pinellas County to Jacksonville.

Have a good one, Aug. Mrs JR has the day off as well. I'm stuck near downtown Tampa, in a hotel ballroom, doing disaster recovery verification for a couple of days.

About 8,000 Duke Energy customers in Pinellas County lost power Monday afternoon after a substation transformer fire.
Fire reported about 2 p.m. Monday
High school football game postponed because of outages
Traffic backing up in area
It was reported about 2 p.m. off of East Lake Road, just north of Brooker Creek School.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire. Fire, police and utility crews responded.
Once the fire is out, utility crews will work on re-energizing the other transformer at the location.
A scheduled football game involving East Lake High School at 7 p.m. Monday has been moved to 7 p.m. Tuesday because of the outages.
A junior and senior parent information night at the school will still take place at 6 p.m. Monday.

NWS Melbourne.....Tue Oct 10 2017
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.
.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
.RIP CURRENT IMPACT...
An east swell at the beaches will contribute to a moderate risk
for rip currents today. Remember to swim near a lifeguard. If
caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
.RIVER FLOOD IMPACT...
Major to moderate flooding continues along the the upper and
middle St. Johns River basin. Limited rain chances through mid
week will allow for river levels to remain fairly steady, or show
very slow decreases through this period.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.
Onshore winds and elevated moisture levels will increase shower
and thunderstorm chances for late week and over the upcoming
weekend. A tighening pressure gradient will also support moderate
onshore winds and building seas across the Atlantic leading to
poor boating conditions on the open Atlantic for small craft.
A lingering swell over the waters will keep a moderate risk of rip
currents along area beaches through much of the week.

Re: CLOSED 9-17-17 FLORIDA/ALABAMA BLOG
real glad I don't live in California..geez,my daughter outside of frisco says the smoke is awful,so far she's in a safe area..12 people have died in the fires and 1500 structures destroyed, some are saying the worst fires there in recorded history and..still going gee....An onslaught of wildfires across a wide swath of Northern California broke out almost simultaneously then grew exponentially, swallowing up properties from wineries to trailer parks and tearing through both tiny rural towns and urban subdivisions.
At least 10 dead, 100 injured
More than 20,000 people evacuated
At least 57,000 acres burned so far
At least 10 were dead, at least 100 injured and at least 1,500 homes and businesses have been destroyed, authorities said. All three figures were expected to surge in the coming days as more information is reported.
Taken as a group, the fires are already among the deadliest in California history.

Re: CLOSED 9-17-17 FLORIDA/ALABAMA BLOG
I believe California's dry season typically runs from spring to autumn. They had a great winter last year but if it hasn't rained (or rained little) in a few months I'm sure the vegetation dries even though they're not technically in a drought.
Just read a brief article saying the wet winter really beefed up the vegetation adding more fuel and this is their fire season. High winds helped the fires rapidly spread. Not sure how they started though. If it was some nimwit flicking a cigarette butt out the window or arson I would be ticked off.
