rea Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
338 PM EDT Sun Apr 22 2018

.SHORT TERM (Tonight-Monday)...
Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to move northwestward
across the eastern half of the peninsula and into the central part
of the state. As the west coast sea breeze forms and starts to push
away from the coast, expect additional activity to pop up, with the
greatest areal coverage still expected near the I-75 corridor. Most
of this rainfall will come to an end by around midnight or so. Having
said that, rain chances will still be in the forecast overnight due
to an approaching area of low pressure and associated cold front.
This front will still be well to our northwest by daybreak tomorrow,
with a steady southerly flow in place across the area. Overall, it
will be a pretty muggy night, with lows only in the mid 60s to lower
70s and dew points not far off from those values.

For the rest of Monday, the frontal boundary will make its way into
the northern part of the peninsula, with the highest rain chances
for our area across Levy County. An increasing southwest flow
through the day will then allow the highest rainfall coverage to be
over the interior and east coast of the state. As the boundary will
not have passed through the region by the end of Monday, conditions
will remain on the warm and muggy side.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

.THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Deepening moisture ahead of a low pressure system across the
southeast states will lead to showers and thunderstorms
developing across east central Florida during the afternoon and
early evening hours. Prefrontal convection will move toward
northern portions of east central Florida into early afternoon
with additional showers and storms developing across the remainder
of east central Florida by the mid to late afternoon and early
evening. Some strong storms are expected this afternoon and
evening with locally heavy rain, gusty winds to 40 to 50 mph and
possible small hail.

.FLOOD IMPACT...
Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms across east central
Florida this afternoon and evening will produce locally heavy
rainfall amounts in spots. Isolated locations may receive up to
two to three inches of rain which would cause ponding of water on
roadways and minor flooding of poor drainage areas.

.RIP CURRENT IMPACT...
A lingering east swell will contribute to a moderate risk for rip
currents at east central Florida beaches. Always swim near a
lifeguard.

.MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT...
Stronger storms across the inland lakes, intracoastal waters and
Atlantic may produce wind gusts over 34 knots. Boater should be
prepared to seek safe harbor in advance of storms.

.WATERSPOUT IMPACT...
There will be a slight risk for waterspouts with stronger storms
near the coast and over the Atlantic waters today.

.WIND AND SEA IMPACT...
Southeast to south winds today to 15 knots will increase some
tonight across the offshore waters. Higher seas will remain
offshore where a Small Craft Advisory continues today. Small craft
operators should exercise caution near the coast.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
There will be a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon before
a front moves through east central Florida by Tuesday night. A
lingering east swell will produce an elevated risk of rip
currents at east central Florida beaches this week.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotters are requested to monitor the weather and self activate
if needed.

Post by LargoFL Mon Apr 23, 2018 4:48 am

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
351 AM EDT Mon Apr 23 2018

.SHORT TERM (Today and Tuesday)...
A broad upper cutoff low remains fixed over the mid
Mississippi Valley region this morning. At the surface, a
broad trough of low pressure extends from western Tennessee
into the Florida Panhandle and eastern Gulf of Mexico. These
features will dominate weather over the next couple of
days, generating unsettled weather and widespread
cloudiness.

Showers and thunderstorms are ongoing this morning over the
Gulf waters. Short range guidance suggests this activity
will gradually move toward the Florida Big Bend/northern
Florida through the morning hours, with a weakening trend as
it does so. This will bring showers and storms into parts
of the Nature Coast through the morning. By late morning and
early afternoon, a weak seabreeze is expected to develop
and quickly advect inland as flow becomes more westerly with
time. This may allow for a few showers or storms inland
from the immediate coast initially. Seabreeze convergence
will be maximized over the interior peninsula, where the
greatest storm coverage is expected. Impressive wind shear
will exist across the region given the presence of the
strong upper trough to our north, but instability will be
fairly meager given widespread cloud cover. Still,
conditions to seem to favor at least the potential for
spotty strong to borderlined severe storms mainly across
interior and eastern Florida mid to late this afternoon.
Despite the clouds, high temperatures will generally remain
in the middle and upper 80s.

Mild and muggy conditions will persist overnight tonight as
south/southwest flow continues ahead of an approaching
front. The front will gradually work its way southward
overnight into the day on Tuesday. With weak upper lift
associated with the lingering upper low, and abundant
moisture, spotty showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will
remain possible tonight into Tuesday morning, with
increasing shower/storm activity along and ahead of the
front toward morning.

Scattered to numerous showers and storms will occur along
and ahead of the front as it continues to move south. With
strong westerly flow atop moist southwest/westerly surface
flow in the vicinity of the linger cold front, locally heavy
rainfall and flooding will be a distinct possibility. The
heavier rainfall is likely to occur across portions of south
central and southwest Florida during the afternoon. Showers
and storms should quickly exist the area toward evening as
drier air gradually moves into the region.

.Mid/Long Term (Wednesday through this Weekend)...
Rather quiet weather expected in the mid/long term forecast
period. Late Tuesday into Wednesday, upper level troughing
across the eastern CONUS will allow for a frontal boundary
to push through the area. Behind the front, drier air aloft
will move in place limiting rain chances for much of the
week. A few shortwaves will move through the base of an
upper-level trough in place across the eastern CONUS on
Thursday and again on Saturday. Although lift will be
enhanced somewhat, moisture looks to remain fairly limited
so PoPs will be capped at 30 percent for now. Mostly sunny
skies are expected from Wednesday into the weekend with
highs in the lower to mid 80s through the period with lows
in the upper 50s to upper 60s.

Good Monday morning. Looks like some areas got quite a bit of rain this weekend and will get more today. A hot, dry weekend here for me. I think it was the warmest temp wise we have had yet this spring with both Sat and Sun in the upper 80's. We did get 0.35" of rainfall early this morning, but that was the only rainfall from this front.

1145 AM EDT Mon Apr 23 2018

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

.THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Moisture will increase across east central FLorida ahead of a low
pressure system over the southeast. This will allow numerous
showers and scattered thunderstorms to develop across the area
this afternoon and evening. Deep south to southwest flow overhead
will push convection to the north and northeast at 15 to 20 mph.
Some strong storms are expected that will be capable of generating
wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph, very heavy localized rainfall,
and possible small hail.

.FLOOD IMPACT...
Widespread showers and scattered thunderstorms across east central
Florida this afternoon and evening will produce very heavy
localized rainfall. Isolated locations may receive between two to
three inches of rain which would cause ponding of water on
roadways and minor flooding of poor drainage areas.

.RIP CURRENT IMPACT...
A lingering east swell will generate a moderate rip current threat
at east central Florida beaches this afternoon. Always swim near
a lifeguard and never swim alone.

.MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT...
Thunderstorms that track across the inland lakes, intracoastal
waters and Atlantic may produce wind gusts over 34 knots. Boaters
should be prepared to seek safe harbor in advance of storms
approaching from the south and southwest.

.WATERSPOUT IMPACT...
There will be a slight risk for waterspouts with stronger storms
near the coast and over the Atlantic waters this afternoon.

.WIND AND SEA IMPACT...
A moderate southerly breeze will prevail this afternoon,
increasing to a moderate to fresh breeze over the offshore waters
overnight. Higher seas will remain offshore where a Small Craft
Advisory continues north of Sebastian Inlet. Small craft
operators should exercise caution south of the Inlet and the
nearshore waters of Brevard and Volusia counties.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
There will be a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon before
a front moves through east central Florida Tuesday night. A
lingering east swell will maintain an elevated risk of rip
currents at east central Florida beaches this week.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotter activation will not be needed today.

Good afternoon. Same here bills. Busy, busy, busy.

Per PT's inquiry - rain fell quite hard for a spell this morning. Had to go to the Valdosta radar since Jax was DOWN for a couple of days (it came back online a short time ago thus the wacky precip echoes below) so couldn't quite hone in like I would've but showers/storms have been in/around the area a good part of the day. Just a tad over 1" in the gauge but I may get one last parting shot to add a few hundredths if course/intensity maintain. I'm on the SE side of the circled + sign.

Often when these small cells are approaching it needs the "eye test".  Step outdoors and monitor the sky. It's telling me "it's gonna rain" although only briefly.

Edit, got lucky with the fastball over the center of the plate. The only show in town at the end of the loop.

clipped from the SPC's morning discussion about 10:50 am.........FL...
A moist and moderately unstable air mass is present today over south
FL, where dewpoints in the 70s and strong heating will contribute to
afternoon MLCAPE values over 1500 J/kg. Scattered thunderstorms
have begun to form along a weak front sagging into the area, with
development likely to spread across the southeast FL peninsula
through the afternoon. Low-level flow is weak/veered, but deep
layer shear is sufficiently strong for a few strong to severe cells.
Gusty winds and perhaps hail are the main threats.
