StAugustineFL wrote:Bills - water down there was 50% off and STILL $3/case? That seems a bit steep. Not sure if you are brand specific or not but to me water is water. I can buy a case at dollar general at normal price for under $3 much less a sale.
Which is crazy if you think about it. I know water is essentially free, but how can a company make the plastic bottles, pump and treat the water, warehouse, transportation, etc., and still make a profit for $3 a case? Guess its all in the volume.

WD, are mullet any good? I always associated them as being a bait fish when my dad was alive. Dumb question I'm sure but I'm curious.

Mullet in my opinion are the tastiest fish in the Gulf, IF you get them from clean waters, AND they are fresh. If you don't like the taste of fish however, they might taste "STRONG" to some. I wouldn't eat one caught from fresh water or any that had been frozen, as they are inedible. Mullet do make excellent bait and I use them all the time to catch other species of fish. Mullet are also the most environmentally friendly fish to eat as they are low on the food weband they are prolific spawners.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
Thanks for all the great info, WD.
I think you know me pretty well:
Local, fresh, laid-back. The closer I get to that, the better.
Just taking in new sights and sounds. I was there in the late 70's, but the memory is vague.

Aug- my family are water "snobs" and will only drink Zephyrhills and its $5.99 a case, so now it's $3.00 Typically we get the 32 pack at Wal-Mart but hubby still can't lift it and I sure can't the big ones, but I can manage the 24 packs .(the 32 pack is 3,.99 at Wal-Mart)
Thanks JR for the kitty sympathy, been hard, but better .His paw print came today.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
now there in sams club the Zepherhills water i think was $5.98 a case..i guess whatever floats your boat taste wise, regardless of hurricanes or not... we always drink bottled purified water anyway so we always have some on hand in my house...we cant afford a generator so for cooking we BBQ if the electric is out .. we have a large floor food freezer and if a storm is coming we put in the freezer packs already frozen to keep the foods cold longer...i guess everyone has their own Hurricane prep plans and things they do that worked for them in the past huh..one thing i always do..the car goes in the garage, never outside...one year long ago I saw first hand..what happened to my neighbor's car..smashed with a tree on it.

Re: CLOSED Thick of Summer in Florida!
NWS Melbourne...423 AM EDT Wed Aug 22 2018
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA.
.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.
.THUNDERSTORM IMPACT...
Favorable atmospheric winds and deep moisture will support
development of scattered afternoon lightning storms. Late day
boundary collisions between local boundaries should lead to
storms across Osceola, Orange, Seminole, and Volusia counties.
There is the potential for additional storms to push toward the
east coast late this afternoon, especially north of Fort Pierce
Inlet.
Lightning strikes and torrential downpours will be the primary
storm hazards. Seek shelter in an enclosed building or automobile
if thunder is heard. Open shelters, tents, and golf carts offer
no protection from deadly lightning.
.FLOOD IMPACT...
Slow moving storms will produce very heavy rainfall, capable of
accumulating up to 2 to 3 inches in a 60 to 90 minute period.
Temporary flooding of some roads as well as low lying and poor
drainage areas will occur. Do not drive a vehicle into water of
unknown depth.
.MARINE THUNDERSTORM GUST IMPACT...
Localized gusty winds will affect some of the intracoastal
waters. Later this afternoon, additional storms are expected to
develop over the mainland and lead to frequent lightning strikes
and gusty winds in excess of 30 knots over inland lakes. Some of
these storms could push back toward the coast, mainly north of
Fort Pierce Inlet.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.
Scattered afternoon lightning storms will produce a threat for
frequent lightning strikes, gusty winds, and heavy downpours each
day.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
Spotter activation will not be needed today. Network observers are
requested to report rainfall amounts exceeding 3 inches to the
Melbourne National Weather Service.

Morning All,
All is good in Z-hills. Have a couple of good storms last few nights. Up to 5.45 in the bucket for the month. Looks like hurr. Lane is going to be trouble for the islands.
My prep is mostly keep the camper full of what we need and I have 2 generators. I am looking into getting my 8000 wt generator tied into the house. My neighbor did that and it worked well with the storm last year.
Have a great day all

Thanks Largo, sure hope it rains . That's our shopping day, plus we're planning on early going to Early Voting, but I'll take the rain!
We did have a shower around 7-8 this morning, not too much out of it though and it was definitely isolated.

Hang in there bills. Build it and they (or rain) will come.
Brief shower here earlier. Maybe .15" tops. Overcast now as a storm slides by 5-10 miles to my north.
