Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
157 PM EDT Mon Mar 13 2017
.AVIATION (18z TAFs)...
VFR conditions to prevail through mid to late afternoon
ahead of widespread showers and storms associated with a low
pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico. Winds will
gradually become south to southwesterly ahead of this system
later today. From 22z to 03z, expect one or two lines or
clusters of storms to move ashore from the Gulf, affecting
most terminals through 06Z Tues. Strong gusty winds and
significantly reduced visibilities will accompany any
stronger storms. A prolonged period of MVFR to IFR cigs
appears probable with the storms, and also behind a surging
cold front as winds become northwesterly. These conditions
will likely persist into at least the late morning hours
Tues.

This system doesn't look too promising for the southern third of the peninsula. Billsfan may have some luck as the HRRR posted above has a couple pockets of heavier rain for coastal SE FL.

Re: CLOSED BLOG Florida Weather
NWS Melbourne.....................NOW...
...Increasing Shower and Storm Chances This Evening and Overnight
Across East Central Florida...
A weak low pressure area over the north-central Gulf of Mexico will
move east and across north Florida late tonight as moisture
increases out ahead of it. Numerous showers and scattered lightning
storms will develop across the east central Gulf and move onto the
west central Florida coast early this evening. This activity will
continue to spread east over the peninsula and across the I-4
corridor from mid to late evening...then areas further south and east
from late evening past midnight.
Some locally heavy downpours are likely...brief gusty winds up to
around 45 mph...small hail...and cloud to ground lightning. There
will be an isolated tornado threat with some of this activity from
near mid evening through around 1 AM. These showers and storms will
move across the intracoastal and near shore Atlantic waters posing
a hazard to boaters late tonight.

Hey Sangria. I am literally at the tip-top of Tampa Bay. About 6 miles from the mainland coast; 10 miles from Honeymoon Island. I get the same treatment here. Seabreeze builds above my head, and then rains on someone east. It can be very frustrating.

JR is in Oldsmar. Current radar looks good for decent totals. Time will tell.
I have spent much more time here today than usual but hope everyone is enjoying their stay thus far. Us "old timers" like to friendly rib one another from time to time so if you see some "smack talk" it's all in good fun. Stick around long enough and you'll be included at some point. No egos here. Just a small group of folks who enjoy their weather and having fun.

Its all good, Aug. You don't have to worry about me, except that I can dish it up as well.
Yup. JR is n Oldsmar, and LargoFL is in Largo, FL. I think I actually pinned my loc (at the park near my house) somewhere on this site. I think we'll also see St.Pete. Can you guess where he's from? We might even see inTampa. Hummm??
Just sprinkles here so far. Can't wait for that batch of yellow to get here. That will be a relief.

Its breaking up a bit as it comes on-shore. Some might call this a light rain. Still sprinkling to me. Officially above a trace now. I'm not expecting too much too fast, so the longer this lasts, the better. Maybe that line coming thru around midnight (HRRR above) will provide a little punch overnight.

Looks like a decent amount of energy headed towards Sarasota Co.:
Hopefully this line becomes more productive as it crosses Lee Co., as we could certainly use the rain (and I'd love a nighttime light show too )!

I think I'll be sleeping happy tonight. Nice light steady rain.
How often do you get the chance to take a long walk in the rain, for the fun of it?
I think I'm hearing a few boomers off Pinellas.
0.4 so far, and its all soaking in.
Good luck SWFL. I know you need it more than me.

Looks like round 1 is done for my area. I got an inch of rain.
That's quite a line of rain tailing down pretty far south. This could be good for the entire peninsula. Fire season killer??? Praying for no serious damage.
