Yep, I'm looking forward to the regular ole sea breeze convection in the afternoons. Last year was the first year in a long time that we seemed to be back to the standard afternoon showers. Lets hope that continues this year. We need the flow out of the SE for that to occur......sorry Aug, here's to hoping no Ka-POW for you!!!

I was watching that cluster earlier. Seems new development is back building offshore Naples. May be a lazy indoor kind of day down there. Largo and the other bay area folks are next in line if they stay intact. I see no signs of weakening at the moment.

Yep; definitely a day for hanging out at home! It seems to have lightened up a bit and may try to get out for a while soon before the convection starts to redevelop, if it does.

I just looks at the 12Z models..both CMC and GFS now put a storm very close to big bend..

well this far out in time we cannot believe the models ok...but it IS our tropical season and by now we should be going over our prep plans and figuring out supplies etc huh...I myself as far as supplies go, I wait this out and if I see something coming close i'll go out and by what groceries and supplies I need....do you too or have you gotten your supplies already?..i know its early in the season but..we all know how Mother Nature just loves surprises huh..i don't have shutters but ive had the form fitted plywood for the windows etc for years now..never except one time many years ago..had to use them.

I was thinking by Twins buddies you were friends with past or present players. It'd be cool to be friends with major league ball players.

I attended a small school (Missouri Valley). It was/still is an NAIA school. We'd play a dozen games or so a year against NCAA DII and some DI's. Baseball is unique in the respect small schools can go toe-to-toe with the "big boys" unlike football or basketball where they would get crushed.

I was a pitcher. One of my fonder memories is having pitched at "the Disch" - university of Texas' baseball stadium in Austin. Also played some summer ball in the Jayhawk League for the Wichita Bronco's at Eck Stadium (home of the Wichita St Shockers). In that case I got sent home after 3 weeks since they had to make roster space for 3 of the Shockers players after they returned from the College World Series. One was Doug Mirabelli who played for awhile in the big leagues.

Largo, call me complacent but I really don't stock up on much unless there is a real threat. I've always got my weather radio at the ready and battery operated lantern. I don't have a generator so need to suck it up if power goes. I need to buy batteries but darn are they expensive these days, lol. One thing I was looking for last year before Matthew was a battery operated fan but all the stores nearby only sold electric ones. Go figure. One thing I do year round is keep about 20 bottles of water frozen in the freezer. They are mini ice packs and can help keep the food fresh for a longer period before spoiling.

I expected as much. Close, but no cigar. The real story is that my best bud now lives in Ohio and is friends and neighbor with the Asst Trainer's dad and father in-law. They come down for the start of spring training each year. For me, that means good seats to all the games, free run of said trainer's seasonal pool home, and dinner out most nights. So friends with the Asst Trainer, acquainted with the Head Trainer, and met a couple of players, is the best I can do. I made a couple of points this year when I handed over my 1987 World Series Championship sweatshirt to the trainer. I got that during my 2-year stint working in MN, and was it Game 2.

P.S. I do remember Mirabelli from the Red Sox. Also have a friend in KC that went to Missouri Valley; worked with him for a year at UM in Columbia.

yeah I don't have a generator either..one thing I do need to buy is one of those large hmm I guess its a flashlight but really lights things up..i have a battery operated lamp, small but does the trick...but if the windows or roof goes I'm stuck..been here since 79 and nothing bad so far has happened to my house storm wise..i rely on the Tampa shield lol...folks here say storms never come here lol.....I guess one day one will come,and i'll ride it out best I can but if its a strong 4 or 5 I'm gone.

yeah we buy several cases of bottled water etc..just in case,ive been thru power outages, we do ok in them..my main concern is the very large tree's around my house..oh well every year I watch the models and storms..we'll see how This season plays out over the coming months. we have the BBQ thing..so after the storm we can still cook and I have a lot of coolers ive bought over the years and there is a place close by that sells the dry ice..so as long as the roof and windows don't go..we should be ok...kinda scary thinking about what COULD happen huh

The rain washed out as it got near me most of the day yesterday.  it was looking really good a few times and of course POOF!  I ended up with .15" for the day.

I don't stock up on much here either.  I'm down to less than a case of water, so that is on my list this week.  Other than that, I let my phone give me the alerts and don't stock up on food.  

I remember my first year here in 2005, The peeps at the Mart thought I was nuts when I went and bought a whole bunch of those little vienna sausages and batteries when the first mention of anything tropical came out.  This TX gal had just driven across I-10 to get here over Memorial Day weekend, and the damage from 2004 was fresh in my mind!

LOL......  I've learned since then.

well all the models form something below us and move it up into the gulf from about the 19th on,what changes for some of them is where it comes ashore along the gulf coast....way tooooo early to believe I guess next weekend the model runs will get quite interesting...

well most believe the Euro model is best..so here it is.................................

Oh, I did buy the Camp Chef oven/stove that runs off of propane, just in case!  It's still in the box.  

only thing I worry about is This time of year storms in the gulf almost always gets blown eastward towards florida.

No rain here yesterday. Where from in TX, San?

BTW. Nice stove.

I keep the basics stocked:
A layer of frozen water bottles
Grill with plenty of propane
Firewood
Camping supplies
Batteries
Can goods
A dozen oil lamps
Plywood is cut and drilled

If something is coming this way, I automatically:
Fill the gas tank
Fill the propane tanks
Add a layer of water bottles to the freezer
Clean and fill the tubs
Stock grill meats and beer!

All easily handled with no waste.

We do have a generator, so we stock up on 4-5 5 gallon containers of gas if we are in the "cone" 4-5 days out. And make sure the vehicles are filled up.  Down the road will put unused gas into one of the cars. We have accordion shutters on all of the windows so they are secured in 5-10 minutes.

I keep an ample supply of food on hand, so don't have to stock up too much.  I do buy some fresh fruits and a bunch of comfort junk food lol   Plus, I'll pick up a pizza to have on hand. We can eat cold pizza if we have to. Have extra cereal on hand and Styrofoam bowls/plastic utensils. Plenty of snack bars just in case. Have a grill with extra propane on hand also.
I, too, have jugs of frozen water in my freezer year round.  We go through a lot of bottled water so I always have that. (have 4 -32 count cases of water on hand now).
Clean and fill the tubs (only storm I didn't do this for was Wilma, and we lost water for three days, so I will NEVER EVER make that mistake again).
and ditto all of the items that you guys mentioned (batteries, flashlights, lamps all that)

I do try to make sure every bit of laundry, especially towels and blankets are washed and dried before a storm approaches.

May none of us need to worry about this, but I'm sure that won't be the case!

Last but not least, stock up on plenty of adult beverages.

St Pete might be getting some good showers now down there,just a few drops by me so far...

I sure hope this is bogus,..we don't need these winds anywhere near here whew............

well we know anything that goes into the gulf..we'll get some rain from it regardless of where it goes inland huh..just the way the upper winds blow eastward this time of year.

Okay Billsfan and JR, cerveza will always be stocked with impending DOOM!



PS, I don't usually have to run out and stock up on it though :-)
