.UPDATE...
Mid/upper level shortwave energy moving northeast across the
eastern gulf, as seen in water vapor imagery, will continue to
enhance the showers and thunderstorm activity this afternoon and
have bumped PoPs up to likely for most of the area which may not
be high enough looking southwest out into the gulf. The energy
should move by early tonight with a break and/or lesser convective
coverage before the main mid/upper level trough and associated
energy approach Tuesday into Wednesday bringing more widespread
showers and embedded thunderstorms. Have already adjusted grids
and will update zone forecast shortly to raise pops for this
afternoon. Remainder of forecast looks ok at this time.

Rainfall wise..we may be getting ALOT of rain.. Tues/Wednesday around here per Nam model runs...

I guess IF you flood easily,like having a stream nearby etc..maybe now is the time to prepare huh, before this heavier rainfall comes next few days..just hopefully the winds stay almost calm like they are here today,dont need any big branches etc coming down..hopefully just a rain event huh

well for myself I'm enjoying this rain event...in my area we really did need this..and it came as I hoped it would.. on and off all day rain, the soaking IN kind.

Had been coming down pretty good here for a few hours. It just let up. I heard on the radio that Miami has received 6.05 inches of rain in June. A good part of Miami got a deluge last Friday, but Fort Lauderdale did not. I'll be curious to see what's in my gauge at the house this afternoon. I dumped about 2.25 yesterday,
Boy the plants and lawn are LOVING this. And I love the temps too!

hiya Billsfan,real glad your getting good rains down there..next few days rains they say will be heavier..careful driving ok.

I'm about to get some heavy rain from my south,st.pete probably got it already......

...LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN INTO MID WEEK WITH A MARGINAL RISK FOR SEVERE
STORMS TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY...

Tonight...Multiple mid level impulses will continue to move northeast
across the area overnight ahead of a deeper mid/upper level trough
across far wrn Gulf of Mexico. Precipitable water values will remain
in the 2.0 to 2.2 inch range with deep moisture through the column
leading to higher than normal evening and and nocturnal rain
chances. Steering flow in the mid level from the SW at 20-25 knots
will allow convection into the evening to move northeast quickly
with additional propagation of rain to the west and some regeneration
of activity over the Gulf later tonight that will move northeast
toward the area through day break. Forecast rain chances will be in
the likely range into this evening and then a chance for rain or an
isolated storm overnight. Some locally heavy rainfall amounts to one
to two inches may occur into late evening in areas that see repeated
convection. Lows will be in the lower to mid 70s.

Tuesday...Main mid level shortwave trough to the west will approach
the north central Gulf coast with stronger SW low to mid level flow
across the area. Categorical rain chances around 80 percent are
expected with deep moisture with PWATs to 2.2 inches ahead of the
trough. Surface winds will be breezy from the SW with some breaks
possible in the mid/upper level cloudiness in the morning leading to
convective initiation again by late morning. Some locally heavy rain
again is expected but increasing mid level wind fields may lead to
more organized convection with the possibility of stronger
thunderstorm gusts that have been in the 35 mph range so far today.

Tuesday night...Deep layer southwest flow and deep moisture will
allow for scattered showers/storms into the evening and then
diminishing overnight. Lows are expected in the lower to mid 70s.

.NEAR TERM /Thru Tuesday/...
A weak wave will move through this afternoon and evening with
scattered to numerous showers with embedded thunderstorms. A
stronger wave will move into the region on Tuesday, increasing
chances for showers and storms. Better support for strong to
severe storms Tuesday, with ample moisture available for heavy
rainfall.

With the cloudy skies and rain, temperatures will be below normal
Tuesday.

so I guess tomorrow's NWS discussions might get interesting huh,we'll see how this plays out..remembering the Energy that's giving us these storms..are from that Pacific Storm that crossed into the gulf...so myself I'm watching out for any surprises coming in from the gulf like a waterspout or two.

I have had on and off light rain for the better part of the day, up until a couple of hours ago. I've gotten a half inch, and some light rain just started back up. We'll see if that adds much more. Regardless, I'm happy that I just got some rain!

Look like about an inch today. And anytime it doesn't reach 90 this time of year is a bonus!

This is everything you've been asking for, Largo, and more.  It is an ideal relief.  Another 3/4 here today; that puts me at 2.5ish over a day and a half, with nuthin heavy.  Might pick up a little more tonight.  After tomorrow, ours might slow up a bit.

I think your time is coming StAug (hoping anyway), and I don't think BillsFan is gonna dry out any time soon.  Hope there's no serious flooding down there.

I just went to the main blog today. First time since April. Scanned the titles that I missed, opened/read 2 about tornados. I called that all caught up, and left.

I couldn't get it to load either, until yesterday, saw the latest GW article, read a few comments and closed it out lol. What a waste of my time and their space.

We may not have gotten a tropical storm out of this, but the Gulf is growling just the same. The sounds coming from the south low-key remind me of the "nuclear" thunderstorms which screamed north at midnight when Colin approached last year.

through the forecast period, perhaps accompanied by the risk for a
tornado. This will occur with multiple episodes of convective
cells/clusters crossing the region in response to isentropic ascent
well in advance of the southern midlevel cyclonic perturbation. Any
greater severe potential will be conditional upon diabatic
surface-layer heating, for which uncertainty is large in this
regime. Furthermore, poor lapse rates aloft will mute
convective-scale upward accelerations, despite sufficient deep and
low-level shear for organized convection with embedded rotating
elements. Given the conditional nature of the severe risk, any
outlook upgrades are being deferred at this time. Of note, the
conditional/isolated severe risk may continue into the overnight
hours -- perhaps becoming focused into far south GA -- as
cyclogenesis occurs upstream, albeit accompanied by an only weak
low-level mass response.

thunderstorms along a line extending from near Dade-Collier

* The primary impacts will be frequent to excessive lightning and
gusty winds of 45 TO 55 mph. Lightning is the number one weather
related killer in Florida. Trees and open shelters offer no
protection. These winds can down small tree limbs and branches,

Well I did get some rainfall last night. The good news is it knocked the dust down on my mile long limerock road, the bad news is it was only 0.01" so the dust will be back by noon if I don't get more rainfall. So far the forecasted rainfall amount has been a BIG BUST for my location. Maybe things will change for the better later today and tonight.

..in looking at the discussions,alot of area's around florida could get 4 inches or more,we'll see how this plays out, I don't like the fact there were already a few tornado and high wind warnings earlier down in southern Florida...and we have today and tomorrow to watch....also there are flash flooding watches up...day had just begun huh.....stay alert and safe out there folks.

well outside..everything by me is soaking wet and the grass and plants are all smiling lol..man we sure needed this to happen...im so thankful its spread out over days and didn't come all at once huh,this kind of weather should put a damper on our fires and help with our drought too.

Rainy, windy, nasty down here. Creating havoc with work schedule. I have people ready to move out of their homes to be tented, pets boarded, food removed and everything is up in the air because of the storms.

The news said we did have a tornado touchdown in Broward County last evening. About 15 miles west, 6-7 miles to my south.

GFS model has something tropical up from the Caribbean into panhandle in 12 days...

and so..our wet season seems to have begun huh.

ah rains a lil heavier in bursts here by me now..guess this goes on all day

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Collier County in southwestern Florida...

* Until 315 PM EDT Tuesday

* At 911 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain which will cause flooding. 8 to 10 inches of rain has
already fallen. Multiple reports of flooded roadways with cars
stalled. Additional rainfall is expected over the area. Along with
high tide late this morning into the early afternoon this will
result in additional flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Naples, Marco Island, Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Golden Gate
Estates.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

The main threats from storms later today will be locally heavy
downpours leading to minor flooding in prone areas...frequent cloud
to ground lightning in a few cells...and gusty winds. Some storms
could also produce 2 or 3 inch amounts from repeated rounds of
downpours.

stay alert and safe folks,I remember a warning long ago about road safety..IF the road is covered with water and you cannot SEE to road..dont drive into it.......I remember a time when I came upon something like that...luckily I didn't drive into it..there was a 4 foot sinkhole underneath..and you couldn't see it with the water filling it up.
