It doesn't feel that bad now that the sun is out. Ended up with 1 inch of rainfall. Wish it would have been snow. We were close, but the atmosphere overhead had a warm layer. Now we will have a hard freeze the next several nights.

Similar conditions here today. 1.13" of rain with mid 30's temps. Using a standard 10:1 snow/water equivalent imagine if it was cold through the column. 10" of snow! So close but yet so far away. Oh well, maybe one of these days.

Caught this radar grab mid-morning.  Snow/ice line pushed a bit more to the east a bit later but not by much.

Thanks for all the updates everyone. We received two inches of rain over two days. Totally rained out at work. Very far behind, but oh well, nothing can be done about it.

NWS Tampa.....Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
247 AM EST Thu Jan 4 2018

.SHORT TERM...
A cold start to the day across the area with wind chill
advisories in place across the entire forecast area. Much
of the area will wake up to temperatures in the 20s and 30s
with the wind chill values making it feel even colder. After
the cold start to the day, temps will struggle to warm much
despite the ample sunshine expected across the area. Highs
will only top out in the 40s and 50s across west-central and
SW Florida.

For those hoping for a warmer start to the day on Friday, I
am afraid that I will be the bearer of bad news as temps
will be even a few degrees colder than Thursday morning. A
Hard Freeze is expected across much of the Nature Coast with
lows in the low to mid 20s expected. Interior portions of
the peninsula will see lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s
and these locations have been placed on a Freeze Warning for
Friday morning as confidence is high in freezing temps
across much of these areas. The arctic airmass will remain
in place through the weekend so high temperatures once again
on Friday will only top out in the upper 40s to upper 50s.

Morning All,
I had .61 in the bucket yesterday. That's more than all of December. Down to 25.7 this am lots of frost.
See clouds rolling in up to 28 now.
Have a great day and enjoy the cooler weather. We all know how it will be in a few months.

Frost and a frozen bird bath. Thermometer said 34 at 5am; now up to 38. No real wind this morning. I hope it holds off and gives us a nice 50 degree day.

Sister outside of Charleston got snow. Sis in Jax got some ice.

Checking in this AM from the frozen tundra of Levy County. We had a hard freeze last night and bottomed out at 24 at my place. The temps dropped below freezing shortly after sunset yesterday and got into the upper 20's by 9 pm. The frost set very early last night as well and was very heavy this morning, to the point of looking like snow in open fields. I checked on my pigs at 9:30 last night and their water trough was already frozen over and the rain water that was caught on their roof was frozen solid. Looks like another couple of nights of this then back to normal temps for a bit. Hope we have another round of freezing weather in a few weeks to kick back the bugs and invasive exotics even further.

I was in Cross City during the time of this radar shot and it was all freezing rain. I didn't see the first snowflake fall from the sky. I did talk to a guy in Old Town at the Jiffy Mart who said it was snowing earlier, but it changed to all rain/freezing rain after sunrise, and none of the snow stuck.

yes with all the snow cover to the north of Florida, it will be easier for the next cold wave to make it down to Florida, looks like we may have a real winter this season...still mid 40's here by me but suns out now, clouds moved away for the time being, might just make it..into the 50's today, but the breeze here is Cld...supposedly tonight may be a few degree's colder..we'll see how this plays out...good luck up there WD

Just under 2 inches short for my area should be a little over 56 inches.

62.9" here with 16" of that being pre-Irma or direct Irma impacts.  Avg per the FL climate center for St Aug. is 49.01 but I'm sure that's coastal whereas I'm 12 miles further west.

Low of 36 up my way. Still got the frost and ice layer on the birdbath!

It looks like we've got 70s coming all of next week. That will be very nice. Glad I'm not in New England.

Morning All,
Largo I know what your feeling. I was up at 12:30 last night 29 outside then got up at 4am up to 34 with a good breeze. Now I checked and 26 with a wind chill of 20.8 amazing how quick it changes in the early mornings.
The forecast says it could be just as cold tonight if the clouds clear out later.
we shall see. Watch out for your pipes outside, cold this long they could freeze.
Let the water drip in a sink so lines don't freeze. Shocked
Have a great day

Another hard freeze here, but not as cold as forecast as we only made it down to 26 (forecast was 22). Looks like a nice day today in the sunshine then another cold one tonight. Next week's upper 60's and low 70's will definitely feel like a heat wave now.

If you have a nearby neighbor with a PWS or rain gauge you can grab totals from them.

Not sure what your living space is like but you could invest in a PWS or do as I do and get a cheap analog rain gauge. I bought one from Aquak9 and Rainman32 several years ago for $30. Good folks. I just have it sitting on a 4x4 wooden beam about 5-6' above the surface and report to CoCoRaHs daily. It measures to the hundredth of an inch. Need it in somewhat of an open area though so the measurements don't get skewed. There is a 1" inner tube then a much larger outer tube that holds and additional 10". It does somewhat suck if over an 1" of rain but on the other hand that is a good day for rain lovers!

You can view this.

Amen, Bills. I'll take sinking into the sea, via tidal intrusion and collapsing caverns, over any of those other hazards. LOL.

I know Aug! I.was feeling pretty out of it with five days of no power after Irma, and it could've been way worse if Irma had hit us directly, but zero degrees, flooded and no power. Shuddering.

Morning y'all!  I'll add my numbers to the mix.  I wasn't here for the last 6 weeks of the year, but there is a fella with a PWS in my sub so I was able to use his numbers.  The rest of the year I measured rainfall with a cheapo rain gauge that can be had at the Wally World!  It sticks in the ground wherever you want it. This pic is not mine, but is similar. I am ordering this one on Amazon because the increments are in 1/10" and my current one doesn't have such close increments.

Jan - 1.96
Feb - 1.68
Mar - 0.62
Apr - 0
May - 5
Jun - 11.16
Jul -  4.49
Aug -14.29
Sep - 9.72
Oct -  3.2
Nov - 2.41
Dec - 1.28
Yearly Total - 55.81

Oh and I am not in the freeze warning this morning, but it is currently 31.6 in my neck of the woods.

The inner tube holds 1".  Anything more flows into the overflow cylinder which holds another 10".  When that occurs, dump the 1" inner tube then, with the funnel, pour additional 1" increments from the cylinder into the inner tube.  Rinse and repeat until it's emptied.  The video demonstrates towards the end.

Edit: may seem like a pain to do that but on average (here anyway) it only rains more than 1" 15 days or so a year. Otherwise all you have to do is look at the markings on the inner tube then dump it out.

Chilly for your area. 29 here. Checked the PWS data. It bottomed out at 30 on Thursday morning and 28 yesterday morning. High today is forecast to be 51. If it reaches 50 it'[ll be the first time since New Years Eve. Can't wait til next week when the highs will be 70-75 and lows 50-55. The heat will get a break and I'll be able to open the slider again!

Think I may put up a new blog. This one has been kicking for a month.

Checked my folks local PWS. 10 of the past 12 nights have been below zero. The 2 days that weren't were a "warm" 3 degrees and 6 degrees.
