At least the skeeters should be knocked down. I need to prune some shrubbery and hidden wasp nests are always a concern. They should be (I hope) a non-issue as well if I can get motivated enough this weekend.

Well I'm balmy compared to you guys! It was 45 at 8:00 am, so I'm guessing our low was maybe 39/40. My hubby said it was 29 Feel like out west where he works.
Still prefer this over the heat.

Morning. I bet the ice bush looks cool John. If you use an image-hosting site like photobucket or imgur you can upload your photo there then copy/paste the URL using the "insert image" icon above the comment box where you enter blog comments.
Currently 25 here again as was forecast. Work calls - have a good day all.

Not as cold as yesterdays low, but still a cold 23 here and HEAVY frost on everything. It looks like snow in open fields and is up in the trees as well. The thaw starts today. Should be another beautiful weekend.I wonder how long this warm period will last and how many more freezes we will get this winter. Still have February and March to go so I am sure winter is not over yet. Joe Bastardi seems to think that after this January thaw is over, winter comes back and locks in in the eastern US for most of Feb/Mar. Time will tell.

Had frost on the roofs here in St. Pete this morning, and some on the grass. Did not have that yesterday, but I think the cold air all day yesterday cooled water temps around here enough to tip us into a light freeze

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Jacksonville FL
242 PM EST Fri Jan 19 2018
.NEAR TERM.../TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A 1029 mb high pressure ridge located from AL to north central FL
will continue to support light winds rest of today with light
winds and abundant sunshine. Temps remain cooler than normal with
very dry air and dewpoints below 20 in many areas at this time.
With clear skies tonight, except for a few cirrus clouds, temps
will drop quickly into the upper 30s to near 40 by the mid to late
evening hours. Used a blend of guidance for lows with a freeze
expected over inland areas. Have issued freeze warning and frost
advy for parts of northeast FL. Only light wind from drainage
flow from the west and northwest.
Saturday...after a cold start...temps will continue to rebound
closer to normal afternoon highs under prevailing low level flow
from the westerly direction near 5-10 mph. Mostly sunny except for
increased mid to high clouds streaming in on west-southwest flow
aloft. Highs fcst mainly lower-mid 60s north zones to mid-upper
60s southern parts. Notable exception for a bit cooler max temps
is along the coast as weak onshore flow develops in the aftn.
Water temps noted to be in the 50s to a few upper 40s with the
cold snap we have had.

Ya, San. It was a first --- it's ok. How about others in current rotation: low-carb quiche, beans with ham and beef liver ? The liver was a new idea as well. It's good, but I can back off a little on the liver part.

Don't they sometimes postpone launch due to cold temperatures?
I would assume so, StPete, but I wouldn't know the current specs. There were certainly a number of postponed shuttle launches, due to temps, post-Challenger.
This launch was successful tonight, following a technical (temperature??? ) delay.

Morning. A chilly 31 here which is 5 degrees colder than forecast. I left my plants uncovered but I'm sure they'll be ok.
If the GFS verifies looks like a wet period coming up beginning next weekend from hour 174 to 312. We shall see. Here's 180 hours.

Morning All,
Down to 36 this am. HEY, did anyone see the rocket launch last night? I saw it really well from my house.
Love the cold weather sorry to see it go. Wish I didn't have to leave at 5am so I could see all the frost on the ground and trees like most of you. well that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Have a great day!!!

Morning. 47 here which feels very nice compared the the past several morning. Couple of light rain showers in the area. May have squeezed out a couple hundredths. Won't know until daylight when I can see the gauge.
GFS seems to have backed off on the rain. Still showing good prospects beginning next weekend but now focusing the best rain from I-4 northward.

Pinto beans, with a couple of ham hocks and diced onions, was a staple growing up. I do skip the rock-hard corn-shaped corn-bread now-a-days, though.

Re: CLOSED 1-6 Florida/Alabama Blog - January Thaw!
It was another great weekend here in Levy county. Saturday was a strange weather day. Cold in the AM with frost, we got up to 60 by afternoon, then the clouds and cold rolled back in the afternoon and it cooled back into the 40's by 5PM. Sunday was much nicer with a high near 70. It is a nice Monday morning here by me. 47 when I went out at 7 AM, with just some patchy light fog on my drive in to work. Looks like a 90% chance of rain tonight with the frontal passage, then a couple of days slightly below normal (60 to 40). Looks like another good shot of rainfall coming next weekend.
