We are in the thick of summer now.... the dew points are climbing higher and it is sticky as all get out these days.  

I like Florida, but I'm looking forward to November!!

Had a small cell move through some time earlier with a much less impressive 2nd round. Not much thunder or lightning with either but the bottom fell out with the 1st. About 1" of rain in 20 minutes with round 1 then maybe .1" with round 2.

Good Tuesday Morning Folks!! and THANK YOU SAN for making us a new blog!!.. no rain by my area this early morning but the clouds above say "we'll be back" lol..well it IS our rainy season huh...hope everyone is ok from yesterdays storms..i see on the news several area's had damage..lets see how it goes thru today..well have a wonderful and safe day today everyone!!

Morning, Largo. I had to race our line of storms to work. Got in the office just in time. I think I got 3" of rain during the drive (0.15 at home).

I did notice some significant oak branch damage in a nearby park from yesterday morning's storm.

By midday, the west coast sea breeze had pushed east of the I-75
Corridor and was approaching the Kissimmee River Basin and the
Florida Turnpike. The east coast sea breeze had yet to form.
Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms had formed along the
west coast sea breeze, with scattered showers develop ahead of it
north of the I-4 Corridor and over the Lake Okeechobee and Treasure
Coast region. These storms are embedded within a strong southwest
flow that will push them to the northeast around 25 mph.

Additional storm development will occur across east central Florida
through mid afternoon as the west coast sea breeze continues its
inland trek. Storms will gradually fill south of the I-4 Corridor
and over the Space Coast with the strongest activity expected in
Brevard county along and east of I-95. Frequent cloud-to-ground
lightning, wind gusts around 40 mph, and torrential rain are
expected with the stronger storms.

If working or recreating outdoors, seek shelter in an enclosed
building or automobile if threatening weather approaches or if
thunder is heard.

Not as wet here as it has been the last two days. Only got a trace on Monday and a quick .25" yesterday AM from a brief downpour. Popcorn Storms are scattered around the area this morning, but do not appear to be organizing into large scale storms. My pig pen is slowly drying out and appears OK for now. My pond on the other hand is well outside its banks and I will most likely need to pump some water out of it this weekend to keep it from flooding my yard. I will also pump out the small retention pond along my drive way as it is now holding water and not soaking in like normal.

glad your ok up there WD, with all the flooding concerns around the state its a good thing the Tropics have been so slow huh

This is the hazardous outlook is for South Florida.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

Thunderstorms: Scattered to locally numerous thunderstorms are
possible mainly around the Lake Okeechobee region and east coast
from Miami Dade to Palm Beach counties. Frequent lightning strikes
and locally heavy rain are main concerns. One or two storms could
also result in wind gusts in excess of 40 mph.

Flooding: Storms today will be capable of resulting in ponding of
waters in poor drainage areas and roadways. Exercise caution if
encountering any storms across the area today.

Lightning: Frequent lightning strikes are again a concern with any
storms today. When it rumbles, head indoors.

Rip currents: There is a moderate risk of rip currents along the
Gulf Coast beaches. Heed the advise of the beach patrol and swim only
at guarded beaches.

There is also the continued increased hazard of Florida red tide
across portions of the southwest Florida beaches today. This may
cause respiratory irritation. Exercise caution when venturing out to
the beach.

Temperature: Heat indices of around 105 degrees are possible today
mainly across interior portions of South Florida. Limit outside
activities, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of fluids.

Waterspout: Isolated waterspouts will be possible over both the Atlantic
and Gulf waters. Boaters are advised to exercise cautioned if
encountering this activity.

Actually got a little bit of rain finally!

Good afternoon. Been busy trying to tidy things up as best I can at work prior to my vacation in a couple of days. Then chores, pet care, dinner, etc. The joys of being single.

12 days in a row with measurable rain here but only 2 were over 1" spaced a week apart which hasn't led to any issues. Around 4.5" in that period.

Good morning all. Largo it wasn't long ago you were begging for rainfall. I think you are getting your share now. I had .25 yesterday and a very brief downpour early this morning and it looks like more will come through the day. Hopefully none of it is on the heavy side, but the rainy pattern looks like we are locked in for the remainder of the summer.

To get my daily exercise, I normally hike 3-5 miles in a local state park. Before I left for vacation on July 6 all the trails and even water crossings were dry. Now, the trails are holding water and the low spot water crossings are mid shin deep. On Monday, as I was walking down the trail I just about walked right into a 5 ft diamondback rattler that was laying, sunning in one of the dry areas. Needless to say it has now caused me to choose another area to hike until the water recedes. Another area I like to hike is the Lower Suwannee NWR. Being a big swamp along the lower portion of the Suwannee River, it too can become very wet and last week they closed the area to vehicular traffic due to road flooding. However, on Tuesday I decided to park at the gate and walk the road to get some exercise. About a mile and a half in I came to a spot where a bit of water was running across the road and noticed something dark in the water. I decided to cross the water as it wasn't too deep, and as I got closer the dark object moved and I saw it was a 6 ft gator. That got my heart racing and I almost decided to turn back, but I kept on going and the gator took off into the roadside ditch. When I walked in there again yesterday I was really cautious when I walked through the spot again. This time he was laying in the grass parallel to the road, but took off into the ditch as soon as he saw me. With all this water everywhere my exercise sessions have really become exciting!

oh yeah im real happy with the rainfall my area is getting for sure............OMG you lucked out with your Gator meeting.hopefuuly he/she was'nt too hungry huh. in the park i go to with my dogs in the lake i saw what the ranger there said was a 13 footer geez..dont want to meet that one like you did lol

i guess your area is in the good spot for the showers WD..good luck ok!!

through mid-afternoon.

Thunderstorms are likely each afternoon, especially over western
interior sections of South Florida. Frequent cloud to ground
lightning is the primary threat, although locally heavy rainfall is

105 and 107 degrees across most of South Florida.

Good afternoon. Gotta love FL wildlife WD. I can deal with snakes or gators but huge banana spider webs over my head freak me out. If I see a spider on the ground no big deal. Above my head I get chills.

That cell stayed to my south Largo but the thunder was soothing. Had a bit of rain preceding it which dropped a quick .30".

Cool lightning map StPete. The storms held together well through the NE GOM into the bay area then lost their mojo points south.

interior and Gulf coast. The primary threat will be occasional to
frequent lightning strikes with the stronger thunderstorms.

Waterspouts: Isolated waterspouts are possible over the Atlantic
waters this morning, and over Lake Okeechobee this afternoon.

Flooding: Some flooding of streets and poorly drained areas is
possible today.

Temperatures: Heat Index values will top 100 degrees over most of
South Florida, and be as high as 105 to 107 degrees over some inland
