My sister-in-law informed us that their electric company, in N.MN notified all of their customers to turn the thermostats to 60 degrees, indicating that they were "out of power".

Thats brutal.  Must take a lot of energy to keep a house at 60+ degrees when its below zero outside

I believe it JR.  Heard a few reports of folks in the north central states having their power companies requesting the thermostats be dialed down quite a bit.  I believe their homes are much better insulated.  While in IA last January with lows in the single digits and sub-zero wind chills mom had her thermo set at 70.  It was comfy enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt.  When my house is 70 in FL I'm freezing my a** off and bundled up. Her house was built in the 60's or 70's.

Not sure if there was frost here this morning Largo. Temps on the drive to work were 36-37. Grass was damp from condensation and not crispy when taking the pooch out at 5:30. It was too dark to see if the rooftops had frost on them. Temps could've dropped a few degrees for a short period afterwards but I was long gone by then.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Jacksonville FL
156 AM EST Fri Feb 1 2019

.NEAR TERM /Through Tonight/...

Surface high pressure will be centered to the north/northeast of the
region this period. This pattern will continue the onshore flow. An
inverted trough is expected to develop along the coast today.
Increasing moisture and lift associated with this trough will
result in shower chances through tonight.

Despite the warm advection today, the cloud cover is expected to
hold temperatures a little below seasonal highs. The opposite will
be expected tonight, with the cloud cover helping to keep
temperatures from falling as much, yielding lows above seasonal
averages.

.SHORT TERM /Saturday through Sunday Night/...

Saturday...Models still in agreement with pushing shortwave out of
the GOMEX and across the region with scattered showers and
possibly a thunderstorm across NE FL, then precip chances
decreasing Sat Night as the energy aloft lifts east of the region.
Slow increase in temps continue with Max Temps in the 60s/lower
70s and Min Temps Sat Night in the 50s. Some patchy fog will be
possible late Sat Night towards sunrise if some clearing occurs.

Sunday...Models start to differ on the next shortwave to move
across the Northern GOMEX and across the region Sunday and exiting
to the east by Sunday Night. So any shower chances will be lower
and generally only in the 20-40% range. Expect temps to be
slightly milder in the middle 60s to middle 70s. Rain chances end
by Sunday Night with partial clearing and areas of fog towards
morning with lows in the upper 40s/lower 50s.

Good morning. Not much in the way of fog issues here. Visibility must be at least 1/2 mile or more.

Completed my taxes yesterday with an outcome better than I thought.

Anyone watching the SuperBowl later today? I'm not really into it this year. Bring on March Madness!

Hi everyone.
Largo- new job starts tomorrow.
I guess I’m officially getting old. I just can’t handle deep fried foods any more. Still taste good, but just don’t agree with me. I cut them out entirely a few months ago and felt much better, but stupidly have tried some recently and uggh. My hubby loves it all and I’ll still make it for him, but no more for me.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
314 AM EST Mon Feb 4 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today - Tuesday)...
An upper level shortwave and associated surface low off the
Carolina coast will lift northeast and away from Florida
today and Tuesday, allowing broad surface high pressure to
build into the Florida Peninsula. This pattern will favor
unseasonably warm and humid conditions to continue, with
temperatures running several degrees above normal.

The main weather concern will be the ongoing fog. The sea
fog that developed over the eastern Gulf of Mexico
Saturday lingered through the day on Sunday, and is
currently redeveloping during the overnight hours and could
continue to move onshore throughout the morning. Short range
models are predicting that this sea fog should largely
dissipate by the afternoon, but pockets could still linger
through the day. Farther inland, patchy ground fog
developing early this morning is expected to continue to
expand and thicken through after sunrise, although some
relatively drier air moving into the Nature Coast should
limit fog there somewhat. Both sea fog and ground fog will
develop once again late this evening and into Tuesday
morning, but confidence is not as high in a dense widespread
fog event.

Wasn't much of a game, a lot of punts. At least the refs didn't blow any calls!

Amazing that places up north had a 50 degree swing in high temps between Saturday and Sunday.

Wow. I think the sun poked through, maybe twice, yesterday. The fog lasted well into the afternoon. Caught a few timely sprinkles on Saturday for .1".

I skipped the superbowl entirely. I've steadily lost interest in the NFL over the years, and have zero interest in the teams that played. I probably would have watched the (more deserving) Saints and/or Chiefs.

Wondering if anyone sees a possibility of a freeze this far south in the near future. Given the current forecast, I'm ready to stick a fork in winter this year. So far no freezes here, only a couple of frosts.

Primarily been cloudy/foggy here as well the past few days which kept the temps cooler than forecast. Finally some late afternoon sun today.

Looks like a freeze-less winter JR. Still some time but the hourglass is running out of sand. Usually mid-March is when the "all clear" sounds up in this part of the state. Plus the all-knowing groundhog says spring has sprung!

plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Mariners operating on the adjacent Gulf waters should also use
extreme caution as areas of sea fog will restrict visibilities to
a mile or less through late morning. Fishermen and other small
craft operators may want to postpone trips into the Gulf until
conditions improve later today.

Morning All,
It was very foggy in my area this am. As I got to Tampa not so bad.
I as JR skipped the super bowl. I don't really watch Pro ball anymore. To many rules. I say let them play like they did 30-40 yrs ago. College football now that's where its at!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day and enjoy the warmer weather.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
300 AM EST Wed Feb 6 2019

.SHORT TERM (Today - Thursday)...
Aloft - A trough from the Canadian Prairies to the Four Corners
region this morning lifts northeast to the upper Midwest as
ridging centered over the western Gulf of Mexico shifts to above
FL. Surface - High pressure in southeast GA/northeast FL tracks
northeastward out across the Atlantic while ridging back over FL
and much of the Gulf of Mexico.

The upper level ridge results in a stable warm and generally dry air
mass while the surface ridge provides modest low level winds. These
will be easterly today and southeasterly Thu although an onshore
shift is expected near the coast each afternoon. While moisture
is limited there will be enough for patchy fog early this morning
and again later tonight into Thu. Temperatures run above normal by
4 to 8 degrees.
